INCREASE YOUR FREQUENT FLIER MILES WITHOUT ALL THAT PESKY FLYING

THE USAIRWAYS PREMIER WORLD MASTERCARD PROVIDES EXCELLENT REWARDS FOR A SMALL YEARLY FEE. AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH YEAR, A CERTIFICATE IS PROVIDED FOR A $99 COMPANION TICKET. A PASS IS ALSO PROVIDED FOR A ONE-TIME VISIT TO A USAIRWAYS CLUB AND, WITH THE RECENT MERGER WITH AMERICAN AIRLINES, THE CARD PROVIDES A FREE CHECKED BAG AND ACCESS TO THE FIRST CLASS CHECK-IN LINE. THE BEST BENEFIT OF THIS REWARDS CARD IS THE MILEAGE ACCUMULATED WITH DOLLARS SPENT. MILEAGE REQUIREMENTS ARE REASONABLE FOR A REWARD FLIGHT AND PARTNER AIRLINES MAKE WORLD TRAVEL OBTAINABLE. THE INTEREST RATE FOR BALANCES CAN BE HIGH, AS ARE FEES FOR LATE PAYMENTS, SO IT IS PREFERABLE TO PAY THE BALANCE EACH MONTH.

Good card for those who like/need to travel via US Airways

I have had this card for just over a year. I originally signed up for the card as they were offering miles as a signing bonus. As I travel alot, I figured I might as well earn some miles since I will be using a credit card for everyday purchases anyways. I like the card so far, they offer specials every so often - “spend $x here and earn 5x miles” etc. Its pretty cool and I have been able to rack up a good amount of milage. I have not tried to redeem any miles yet, so I cannot comment on how easy/difficult that process is. I have heard that sometimes there are blackouts etc. but I am hoping for the best.

Great Boost for Airline Miles!

When I signed up for this card, it was primarily for the 40,000 bonus miles for US Air. I had no problems receiving the card and got it in a very timely manner. After paying the yearly fee and making my first purchases, the bonus miles were deposited into my account right after that first billing period closed. I have been pleased that this happens like clockwork, and all of the extra miles I am earning are appearing in my account. One of the first months I had this card, I ate out at a restaurant, and charged the bill to this card. I later received an email telling me that I had just earned bonus miles as that restaurant was in the network of restaurants. I was very pleasantly surprised and happy to receive the benefit without even having been aware of this option.

The online account system is very easy and clear to use, and I have been able to schedule payments without any hitch. The user-face is well designed and I can access all of the information about my card, payments, and miles being earned. I am currently waiting to see how the merger with US and American airlines will effect my card and the benefits. While the yearly fee is a bit of a downside, this card and the bonus miles have already paid that off for the next several years after the benefits I have gotten for flights. I am very happy I signed up overall.

Poor benefits with this card

I have had my US Airways Premier World MasterCard for approximately 7 years. I originally chose this credit card as my first credit card (while I was a college student) because of its potential benefits to earn airline miles. While I have had no problems with the car, per say, I have been highly dissatisfied with the benefits associated with this card.

Unlike credit cards that my friends and family members have, the US Airways Premier World MasterCard has very specific uses for the points accumulated, and they can only be redeemed for flights on USAir. Unfortunately, the cost of a flight (using frequent flier miles) is so high on USAir, and the flight times are not always convenient, that it has been quite frustrating to find a use for my miles. Furthermore, the ratio of dollars to miles (1:1) does not offer many additional ways to earn miles or any promotional deals (except for new members). It has taken me nearly 7 years (of using my credit card on a regular basis) to earn enough frequent flier miles to pay for the cheapest flight possible.

After talking to my friends and family, and doing my own research online, I probably would have chosen a different credit card for my personal needs. I would prefer to have a credit card that offers incentives such as cash back, or other ways to use my earned miles (such as gift cards, magazine subscriptions, etc.).
