/5 NerdWallet ratingThe Premier Savings account has a $4 monthly fee, but it is easy to avoid. It can be waived with a linked Asterisk-Free Checking account or $300 average daily balance. You’ll need $50 to open a Premier Savings account, and it earns interest even if the balance drops lower than that amount. But with a low rate, you probably won't see your money grow much.

/5 NerdWallet ratingHuntington offers a large range of CDs, including a wide variety of short-term CDs, but interest rates are very low. The minimum deposit of $1,000 is pretty standard for large institutions, but some banks don’t have any minimum.

Customer experience
4.5
NerdWallet ratingHuntington has more than 1,000 branches, mainly across the Midwest and Southeast. In addition, the bank has a daily 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET phone line and automated chat support that can be escalated to a customer service representative. Huntington Bank also offers a full deck of standard online banking features, such as bill pay and paperless statements. Its mobile app gets a high rating from both Apple and Android users.
Overdraft fees
3.5
NerdWallet ratingYou won’t be charged an overdraft fee unless you overdraw your account by more than $50. Some banks charge an overdraft fee when an account is overdrawn by more than $5.
If you do overdraw your account by more than $50, Huntington offers a free overdraft protection feature called 24-Hour Grace. You can avoid an overdraft fee by pulling your balance up to a positive amount by midnight of the next business day. You can also link another account for overdraft protection transfers, which are free.
If you don’t bring up your balance, you’ll be hit with a $15 overdraft fee up to three times a day.

Methodology
NerdWallet’s overall ratings for banks and credit unions are weighted averages of several categories: checking, savings, certificates of deposit or credit union share certificates, banking experience and overdraft fees. Factors we consider, depending on the category, include rates and fees, ATM and branch access, account features and limits, user-facing technology, customer service and innovation. The stars represent ratings from poor (one star) to excellent (five stars). Ratings are rounded to the nearest half-star.
