Who is Breakdown Assist?
Breakdown Assist was set up in 2007 as a trading style of QDOS Insurance services. It provides various levels and types of breakdown cover to customers in the UK.
What services does Breakdown Assist offer?
Breakdown Assist offers various levels of breakdown cover, as well as different types of cover.
- Local Cover: This level of cover provides you with roadside assistance providing you are a minimum distance from your home. If the vehicle cannot be fixed at the roadside, you, your passengers and your vehicle will be recovered within a maximum recovery distance.
- National Cover: National Cover with Breakdown Assist includes the services for Local Cover but also provides some extra recovery services for yourself, your car and your passengers.
- Full UK Cover: As well as local and national recovery, this level of breakdown cover also includes home start. This means that you will also be able to call out Breakdown Assist’s recovery engineers if your car won’t start at your home or very close to your home.
What types of breakdown cover does Breakdown Assist provide?
- Vehicle breakdown cover: This type of breakdown cover means that one named vehicle is covered by the policy, usually regardless of who is driving it when it breaks down.
- Multi-vehicle breakdown cover: A multi-car breakdown policy means that more than one car can be named on the policy and covered in the event of a breakdown.
- Personal breakdown cover: This type of cover means that you, as the driver, are covered by the policy, rather than a vehicle, which means you can call out the engineers if you break down regardless of what vehicle you are driving.
- Family breakdown cover: This extends your personal cover to up to four people living at the same address on a single policy.
What is voluntary excess offered through Breakdown Assist?
Breakdown Assist offers the option for policyholders to pay a voluntary excess at the point at which they call out the Breakdown Assist engineer, which would bring down the overall cost of their policy by a percentage. The excess is paid on a card and goes towards the cost of repairing the broken down vehicle.
What vehicles does Breakdown Assist cover under its policies?
Breakdown Assist covers cars, vans, motorbikes, mopeds, caravans and trailers under its policies. However, there are some conditions and exclusions that you need to be aware of before committing to this cover.
Are there conditions and limitation applied to Breakdown Assist’s cover?
Yes, there are some exclusions and conditions applied, which you should check thoroughly before signing up. These include limits on recovery distances, time spent on roadside assistance and the number of callouts allowed on each policy per year.
