Halifax Current Accounts FAQ
Who is Halifax?
Halifax is a UK-based high street bank, which is a trading division of Bank of Scotland. It was initially a building society and became Halifax PLC in 1997. It offers a range of banking services, including mortgages, current accounts, loans, savings accounts and insurance products to customers around the country.
What types of Halifax current accounts are there?
Halifax offers two main types of current accounts for consumers aged over 18. It also offers accounts to junior customers and students. The Halifax current accounts are called the Reward Current Account and the Ultimate Reward Current Account.
When deciding which account to opt for, it’s sensible to consider whether such an account offers you value for money. If, for example, you already have breakdown cover or travel insurance, the monthly fee may cost you more than buying these benefits separately.
What banking services does Halifax current accounts offer?
The Halifax current account offers all the services you would expect from a current account, including the ability to apply for an arranged overdraft, which comes with fees, and a Visa debit card.
What eligibility criteria will I have to meet to be accepted for a Halifax current account?
Halifax will check your credit score and your financial situation when reviewing your eligibility for their current accounts. You will also have to be a UK resident and be over 18.
Can I get an overdraft with a Halifax current account?
You can apply for an arranged overdraft, but you will have to meet certain criteria to be eligible. This will include a credit check as well as other financial and employment status checks. Overdrafts at Halifax carry charges for use. It’s important that you check these charges carefully before going overdrawn so you know how much the borrowing will cost you.
I have poor credit, will I be able to get a Halifax current account?
Halifax offers a Basic Account to those who are not eligible for the other Halifax current accounts. It offers some banking services, such as paying in, direct debits, standing orders and a Visa debit card. No overdraft is available on the account, so you won’t be able to get into debt.
