Lloyds Bank Current Accounts FAQ

Who is Lloyds Bank?

Lloyds Bank is part of Lloyds Banking Group plc and is a high street bank in the UK. It is one of the oldest banks in the country and offers services including loans, investments, current accounts, mortgages, savings and insurance.

What types of current accounts does Lloyds offer?

There are four main types of everyday current accounts available through Lloyds Bank, not including its under 18s accounts and student accounts.

  • Classic Account: This account does not carry a monthly fee and offers a range of banking services, including online banking, access to a debit card and overdraft, providing you meet the criteria, and other daily banking services. Some charges and fees may apply for certain services.
  • Lloyds Club Account: This account is for those who can pay in a minimum amount each month, or those who agree to pay a monthly fee. The account offers some preferential terms and rates, alongside other incentives.
  • Lloyds Platinum Account: Those who are happy to pay a monthly fee can access this account. It comes with a number of added extras on top of the standard banking services, including insurance cover.
  • Lloyds Club Platinum Account: This account offers extras including insurance and lifestyle services, and also pays interest on balances providing you pay the monthly fee and meet other eligibility criteria.

Can anyone apply for a Lloyds current account?

Yes, there’s nothing to stop you applying, whatever your circumstances. However, most banks, Lloyds included, will check your credit score when you apply and also look at things like your employment status and your income to check whether you are eligible for their accounts. If you apply and are turned down, your credit rating could suffer. Many banks have basic bank accounts for those with bad credit, which usually offer banking services, but rarely offer overdrafts.

Can I upgrade my existing Lloyds current account?

You can apply to upgrade your account online and your benefits should carry forward onto your new account if you are successful.

How much do Lloyds current accounts costs?

Although the Lloyds Classic Account does not charge a monthly fee, there may be charges for certain transactions or services, so it’s important to check these before signing up. The other accounts carry fees and charges that can change regularly, so it pays to make sure you are aware of the current charges before deciding which account is right for you.

Does Lloyds offer an app for its current account holders to use?

Yes, there is an app that you can download onto your mobile device intended to help users keep on op of their finances.

Can I access all the offers and services at any time?

Some of the offers, such as cashback, can carry extra eligibility requirements. For example, they may only be available to those who regularly use internet banking, for example.
