FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is NerdWallet?
NerdWallet is focused on helping people lead better lives through financial education and empowerment.
When it comes to credit cards, insurance, loans or expenses like homeownership costs, consumers make almost all their decisions in the dark. NerdWallet is changing that by providing access to free financial comparison tools, research and experts that can’t be found anywhere else, all to help consumers take back control of their choices in a marketing-driven, trillion-dollar industry.
Why do you do these studies and how can they help readers?
We produce analyses that explore aspects of cities that matter to people. Determining where to live is one of the biggest financial decisions a person will make in their lifetime – it affects where their kids can go to school, how much their house costs, their daily commute, among many other things.
We present our analyses in simple, digestible formats so readers can understand more about the numbers that help define certain places. We encourage our readers to share our work with their friends, family and networks.
Our studies are not meant to be definitive guides but rather recommendations. We encourage people to supplement our analysis with their own research.
How does NerdWallet come up with the answers?
Through the Nerds’ hard work! We have teams of smart, committed experts who crunch the numbers and analyze the results to help you make informed decisions.
We use authoritative sources such as the U.S. Census and Bureau of Labor Statistics to generate our analyses.
Why should people trust NerdWallet’s guidance?
We’re transparent about how we come up with the answers (just check out our methodologies!) and believe consumers come first. We show you our findings and provide this information through an objective lens. We think of it as “doing the homework for you” – additional research that most don’t have time to do.
