Overall bank rating

4.5
Bask Bank is the online-only bank division of Texas Capital Bank based in Dallas. The bank limits its offerings to two savings accounts, one that earns interest and another that earns American Airlines AAdvantage® miles. The interest account, which we reviewed, has a competitive savings rate and no fees except for using wire transfers. It has average to above-average mobile app ratings, depending on the app store. But the bank has limited services: There’s no checking account or certificates of deposit, and no access to ATMs or branches.
Best for: Savers looking for a solid rate or airline rewards miles and who already have bank accounts elsewhere to fund this account.
Editor’s note, Nov. 30, 2022: Bask Bank recently started offering certificates of deposits from six-month to two-year terms at competitive rates. Since there are few CDs offered and not all are the most common terms, we did not include them as part of the overall bank rating.
Pros
- Competitive rate of 4.45% annual percentage yield on its interest account.
- No monthly fees or minimum balance requirements.
- Extended phone support after 5 p.m. Central time on weekdays and some hours on Saturday.
Cons
- No checking account.
- No branch or ATM network.
- No cash accepted, unlike some online banks.
- Transfer and mobile check deposit processing times may be several days slower than at some bigger online banks.

Methodology
NerdWallet’s overall ratings for banks and credit unions are weighted averages of several categories: checking, savings, certificates of deposit or credit union share certificates, banking experience and overdraft fees. Factors we consider, depending on the category, include rates and fees, ATM and branch access, account features and limits, user-facing technology, customer service and innovation. The stars represent ratings from poor (one star) to excellent (five stars). Ratings are rounded to the nearest half-star.
