The article was originally published on Nov. 2, 2022, and the presale offers ended later that month.

UPDATE November 18, 2022: This article has been updated to reflect changes, including the timing of the Capital One Exclusive Cardholder Presale, which was moved to 2 p.m. local venue time Wednesday, Nov. 16, according to Ticketmaster, "to address the historic demand for tickets." Ticketmaster's planned release of remaining tickets on Friday, Nov. 18, was also canceled.

Ever since pop superstar Taylor Swift's not-so-subtle announcement on "The Tonight Show" last week, Swifties everywhere have been wondering and waiting with bated breath: When's the tour? As of Nov. 1, 2022, Swift made it official.

Kicking off March 18, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona, the U.S. leg of "The Eras Tour" will include 27 shows in 20 cities, with a rotating cast of special guests joining along the way.

Demand for tickets has been sky-high. It's Swift's first time on the road in five years, and with her new album, "Midnights," she became the first artist to claim all 10 of the top spots on the Billboard Hot 100.

There were some presale options, one of which required being a customer of Capital One (the presenting sponsor of the tour):

  • Ticketmaster's TaylorSwiftTix Verified Fan Presale. These were the first tickets to go live, at 10 a.m. local venue time on Tuesday, Nov. 15. To qualify for purchase under this presale, Verified Fans had to have preregistered by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, Nov. 9. But virtual queues were snarled for much of the day on Nov. 15 amid what Ticketmaster called "historic demand for tickets," causing widespread delays and fan frustration. Presales for several West Coast markets were moved to later in the day.

  • The Capital One Exclusive Cardholder Presale. The second allotment of tickets went out to eligible Capital One credit or debit card holders beginning at 2 p.m. local venue time on Wednesday, Nov. 16. (More information is below on how cardholders could qualify for the presale.) Originally, this presale was set to open on Nov. 15, but per Ticketmaster it was moved "to provide a smooth experience for cardholders" amid those delays to the Verified Fan Presale rollout. Ticketmaster says the date change won't affect the availability of tickets for Capital One debit or credit cardholders.

  • Remaining tickets were set to be released to the public at 10 a.m. local venue time on Friday, Nov. 18. But amid the chaotic rollout of the presales, Ticketmaster canceled this sale.

Qualifying for the Capital One Exclusive Cardholder Presale

Capital One cardholders had to have visited the ticketing website (see link above) at 2 p.m. local venue time on Nov. 16, where they would have needed to enter the first six digits of their Capital One card number. Cardholders were required to use their Capital One credit or debit card to complete the purchase, and orders were limited to six tickets per transaction while supplies last.

The presale was available to holders of credit and debit cards issued by Capital One, with the exception of private-label cards — store cards that can be used only at a specific merchant and that don't bear the Visa or Mastercard label.

If you have multiple Capital One cards to choose from, an ideal choice for the ticket purchase would have been the Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card. It earns 4% cash back on entertainment purchases, which includes concert tickets, and it'll also earn 4% back on dining before the show.
