When Is Amazon Prime Day?

Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This may influence which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. However, this does not influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own. Here is a list of our partners and here's how we make money.

Born in 2015, Prime Day is the brainchild of Amazon. It’s a limited-time sale with an exclusive guest list — Amazon Prime members.

After seven iterations of the bargain blowout, Amazon announced the eighth annual Prime Day is coming July 12 and 13. Here’s what you need to know.

What is Prime Day?

In the retail world, Prime Day stands alongside Black Friday and Cyber Monday as a go-to shopping event for just about any product category. Past installments of Prime Day have included price cuts on everything from Echo speakers to toilet bowl lights.

This year, Amazon promises the discount day will feature more than two million deals globally for Prime members.

When is Prime Day 2022?

So when should you get your virtual shopping cart ready?

Prime Day 2022 begins at midnight Pacific time on July 12 and runs for 48 hours — the same time span as last year’s event.

What do you need to do?

If you want to shop the sale, you’ll need to be a Prime member. Amazon Prime costs $139 per year or $14.99 per month. New Prime members get a 30-day free trial before paying.

Students pay $69 per year or $7.49 per month after a 6-month trial. Some recipients of government assistance may also be eligible for a discounted rate.

And keep your options open. It likely won’t just be Amazon hosting bargains. We expect copycat sales from other retailers on and around July 12 as part of an early holiday deals push.
