Haventree Bank GIC Rates (August 2026)

Haventree’s short-term GIC rates aren’t anything to get excited about. Things get more appealing if you’re able to sock your money away for at least two years.

Haventree Bank is a new player in Canada’s GIC marketplace. Formerly a dedicated alternative mortgage lender, Haventree started offering bank accounts and GICs in July 2026.

Haventree’s GICs are:

  • Non-redeemable. Outside an initial 24-hour grace period, investments are locked up until maturity unless the GIC’s owner dies.

  • Of standard duration. Terms range from one month to five years.

  • Accessible. The minimum deposit is $100.

Methodology

NerdWallet Canada selects the best bank accounts based on several criteria. Factors in our evaluation methodology include services, branch banking availability, number of included transactions, seniors discounts and more. The accounts considered for this list are available to Canadians in more than one province.

Haventree GIC fast facts

  • No registered account purchases. Haventree does not currently offer RRSP, TFSA or FHSA GICs.

  • Standard interest calculation. Interest is based on a fixed annual rate over a 365-day year. For terms longer than a year, interest can be paid or compounded at regular intervals.

  • Two renewal options. At the end of term, you can automatically renew, or get paid out your principal and interest.

  • CDIC protection. Haventree’s GICs are insured up to a maximum value of $100,000.

Should you buy a GIC from Haventree Bank?

There aren’t many banks in Canada offering 4% on two-, three- or four-year terms, so some of Haventree’s long-term GICs are quite appealing.

The only sticking point is that they’re non-redeemable. Before purchasing one, you should be reasonably sure that any money you put in won’t be needed mid-term.

That’s less of a concern with redeemable GICs, which you can find elsewhere.

How to buy a Haventree Bank GIC

Before you can purchase a Haventree GIC, you’ll need a Haventree account. To be eligible to open an account, you must:

  • Be the age of majority in your province or territory.

  • Be a Canadian resident.

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number.

  • Only pay taxes in Canada.

  • Have a valid Canadian phone number.

Signing up for an account might take a few minutes. Have your SIN and any documents that might be needed to confirm your identity handy.

Once you’re a client, you should be able to purchase GICs through your bank account either online or through the bank’s app. You can also buy Haventree’s GICs through a deposit broker, but the minimum deposit is $5,000.
