Total Energies FAQ

Who is Total Energies?

Total Energies supplies gas and electricity to industrial, commercial and business customers in the UK. It was established in 1987 when the gas market deregulated, and then it began supplying electricity in 2001. It is now embracing renewable technologies to add to its energy portfolio.

Who does it supply business energy to?

Total Energies supplies over 200,000 business premises across many different market sectors and counts small and medium businesses, large industrial and commercial companies, among its customers, as well as the public sector and not-for-profit organisations.

What business energy plans does Total Energies offer?

Total Energies offers fixed and flexible plans to businesses which use 10 GKw or less each year. Fixed plans mean customers fix the price of their energy and are not affected by the movement of energy prices. Flexible plans mean that as energy prices rise and fall, the cost of their energy units will also rise and fall and you can control when you buy power to manage market fluctuations. Total Energies has fixed-price gas and electricity plans to help businesses plan ahead for up to five years, with green energy options available.

Does Total Energies supply the public sector?

Total Energies has been supplying gas and electricity to the UK’s public sector since 1987 and has a team to manage public sector contracts. It currently supplies around 60,000 public sector sites including local authorities, NHS Trusts, higher and further education establishments, schools, emergency services and housing associations.

Are there options for larger businesses?

For businesses with an annual energy consumption of over 10 GWh, Total Energies has a range of products available, including fixed price, Fixed-Flexi, Baseload or fully-traded. Fixed-Flexi means businesses can purchase energy ahead of time and lock the electricity price for the entire contract, single years, or individual months.

Baseload allows businesses to trade flexibly but has some added protection from market fluctuations and energy not consumed. The fully-traded allows businesses to buy energy for any period and any amount, from buying for months at a time to individual half-hourly periods.

Does Total Energies supply smart meters?

Yes. Businesses who want to get an accurate view of their energy consumption can get a smart meter or automated meter reader (AMR) installed with Total Energies. Both are meter technologies which increase energy consumption transparency and reduce the need for estimates or manual meter reads.

Does Total Energies supply energy for new businesses?

Yes. Sorting out the power supply is key when setting up new premises for your business. New customers can apply to Total Energies online or over the phone.

Is Total Energies carbon neutral?

Total Energies aims to be carbon neutral by the year 2050 or sooner. It has a three-step plan to achieve this: going carbon net zero across its operations worldwide by 2050; to be carbon net zero across all production and energy products used by Total customers in Europe; to yield a 60% or more reduction in the average carbon density in energy products used worldwide by Total customers by 2050.

Where can I find Total Energies reviews?

Independent review sites like Trustpilot will have Total Energies reviews from previous or existing customers.

How can I switch my business energy to Total Energies?

Many contracts only allow you to switch at certain times, so before switching your supplier to Total Energies, check when you can leave without penalties. That way you can benefit from any savings on the new contract without being charged fees for leaving your previous contract early.

Most business energy deals don’t offer a cooling-off period, even if you’ve only agreed the contract over the phone. So make sure you’re clear on the terms and conditions before going ahead with the switch.
