The Chase Ultimate Rewards® program has undergone some major changes in the month of September, none bigger than the introduction of the Chase Freedom Flex℠ card, a high-earning cash-back card with a $0 annual fee.
Even if you think that the last thing you need is another Chase card, here are some reasons why you might consider applying for the Chase Freedom Flex℠.

Why get the Chase Freedom Flex℠?
1. Attractive welcome bonus offer
Earn a $200 Bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening.
2. The ability to earn cash back
You will earn 5% back on travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards®, 3% back on dining, takeout and eligible delivery services, 3% back on drugstore purchases and 1% back on all other purchases.
3. Rotating bonus categories
The Chase Freedom Flex℠ will also earn 5% back on quarterly bonus categories for up to the first $1,500 spent in those categories.
4. Cell phone protection
Sooner or later, it happens to everyone. You drop your phone, watch it smack onto a hard surface and then admire the spider web of cracks that have spread across your once pristine display screen. Normally, this would cost hundreds of dollars to repair, but the insurance provided by the Chase Freedom Flex℠ card should bring that amount down.
Chase Freedom Flex℠ provides you with cell phone insurance for up to $800 per claim and $1,000 a year against both damage and theft as long as you pay the monthly bill for that phone with the card. You can make up to two claims in a 12-month period, and you will be responsible for a $50 deductible per claim.
5. Credit protection
The Chase Freedom Flex℠ gives you access to your credit score to help you monitor whether anyone is opening cards or running up debt in your name. The card also has zero liability protection so that you aren’t responsible for unauthorized charges made to your card.
Additionally, the card also features fraud monitoring protections, which use tools to monitor your account in real time so that you can be alerted quickly of any possible signs of fraudulent activities.
6. Purchase protection
Items you buy with your Chase Freedom Flex℠ will be covered by the card’s purchase protection, which covers you for 120 days against both damage and theft, up to $500 per claim and $50,000 per account.
7. Warranty extension
Adding another layer of protection for your possessions, the Chase Freedom Flex℠ also offers warranty extensions for items you buy with the card. This perk will extend eligible warranties from U.S manufacturers for an additional year, as long as the warranty is for three years or less.
8. Travel services
As quarantine has taught us, vacations and travel plans can be interrupted or canceled for the most unexpected reasons. For passenger fares that can’t be refunded, Chase will pay up to $1,500 per person and $6,000 per trip for trips that are canceled because of illness, severe weather and other covered situations.
Additionally, Chase Freedom Flex℠ offers an emergency helpline for travelers in need of legal or medical referrals or who need other travel or emergency assistance.
9. DoorDash discount
Since COVID-19 hit, a lot of us have been ordering more takeout, racking up high delivery fees. To help offset those costs, Chase Freedom Flex℠ cardholders will be given three free months of DoorDash’s subscription service, DashPass.
With DashPass, you’ll receive unlimited deliveries with no delivery fees for orders over $12 (though other fees may apply). After your three months are up, you’ll then be eligible for nine more months of DashPass at 50% off. You must have activated this perk by Dec. 31, 2024, to take advantage of it.
10. Cash back on Lyft
Through March 2025, cardholders will earn 5% cash back on every ride they take on Lyft.
