5 Things to Know About the United MileagePlus Neo World Elite Mastercard

As of April 15, 2026, Canadians have a new travel card to consider: the United MileagePlus Neo World Elite Mastercard, launched through a partnership between Neo Financial and United Airlines.
For Canadians, the biggest draw may be the ability to earn MileagePlus miles through everyday spending, in addition to the miles they can earn through eligible flight activity.
With so many Canadians connecting through U.S. airports served by United, Jeff Adamson, Neo Financial co-founder and chief commercial officer, says many wind up with a MileagePlus account but haven’t had a convenient way to earn those miles through everyday credit card spending.
“This is the first Canadian card that changes that,” Adamson says. “It provides kind of an on-ramp into MileagePlus right as the program got materially better for cardholders.”
Let’s dig in.
1) It’s the first Canada-issued United co-branded credit card
The new card gives Canadians an easy way to earn MileagePlus miles through everyday spending, alongside the miles they can earn through eligible flight activity.
That’s notable because, until now, Canadians who wanted MileagePlus miles generally earned them by flying and crediting those flights to United, or through indirect options like converting other rewards currencies.
In a travel rewards market dominated by Air Canada and WestJet, United’s growing presence gives Canadians another, less tangible benefit: choice.
“It really helps bring some much-needed competition to the international travel segment,” Adamson says. “I think that Canadians want to feel like their business is being competed for.”
United Airlines recently overhauled how travelers earn miles with MileagePlus to make the loyalty program more rewarding for United’s co-branded cardholders.
2) It has World Elite income requirements — and a secured option
Like many World Elite Mastercards in Canada, this card has a minimum income requirement: $80,000 in personal income or $150,000 in household income.
That’s a familiar threshold for premium Mastercard products in Canada.
Neo also offers a more accessible secured version of the card. With a security deposit, cardholders with less than pristine credit scores or limited credit histories can still get the same earn rates, the same travel perks and access to the MileagePlus program.
“So whether you're a newcomer to Canada, someone who's rebuilding your credit, someone who the traditional financial system just doesn't see, we now have an option for those people,” Adamson says.
Applicants must also be Canadian residents and the age of majority in their province or territory.
3) It comes with United-specific travel perks
The card comes with several United-specific perks that can make travel smoother, including:
A free first checked bag on United-operated flights paid for with your card.
Group 2 priority boarding on United flights for the primary cardholder and travel companions.
Up to $120 USD in Nexus application or renewal fee reimbursement every five years.
The ability to earn and redeem MileagePlus miles across United and 25+ Star Alliance partner airlines.
Your earning potential also gets a major boost when you use the card to pay for United flights. You can earn miles both as a MileagePlus member and as a cardholder, helping you build your balance faster.
Cardholders also get at least 10% off award flights, or 15% off if they have Premier Status, so you can book trips using fewer miles. You’ll also gain access to Saver Award availability, including premium cabin seats like Polaris Business Class.
4) Neo’s partner network offers more ways to earn
Additional earning opportunities come through the card’s built-in access to the Neo Rewards network of 10,000+ partners.
Offers vary by retailer and location, and bonus miles are earned on top of the card’s base earn rates.
Cardholders can find participating merchants, locations and current offers in the Neo app.
