Best Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card benefits

The Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card offers the following welcome bonus: Earn 90,000 bonus miles after you spend $4,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months. Terms Apply.

Annual Companion Certificate when you renew your card

This is one of the more generous benefits of this card. You’ll receive a domestic round-trip Main Cabin Companion Certificate every year you renew your credit card. This benefit alone can save you a lot of money.

In order to use your Companion Certificate, you will need to book a paid fare. Unfortunately, the Companion Certificate cannot be used on award flights.

When using your Companion Certificate, you will be required to pay taxes and fees, up to $75 for a round-trip ticket, with up to four flight segments. Terms apply.

Annual status boost

Cardholders who spend $25,000 or more in a calendar year will earn 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM). Cardholders who spend $50,000 per calendar year will earn an additional 10,000 MQMs. Terms apply.

For bigger spenders, this is a nice boost that brings you one step closer to earning status on Delta Air Lines.

No foreign transaction fees

Do you travel outside the United States? Some credit cards charge a 3% foreign transaction fee, but the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card has no foreign transaction fees. So you can keep earning Delta miles abroad and have more money to spend at your destination. Terms apply.

Free checked bags

Pesky bag fees can add up to a lot of money. Fortunately, the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card offers a free checked bag for you and up to eight travel companions on the same reservation. Terms apply.

Delta charges $30 per checked bag on domestic flights, meaning this benefit could save you up to $60 per person per round-trip ticket. Not only can this benefit save you money, but this is a great way to ease the baggage restrictions of basic economy.

Zone 1 priority boarding

Boarding your flight earlier can allow you to settle in and get more overhead luggage space. The Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card offers Main Cabin 1 boarding for you and up to eight individuals traveling on the same itinerary. Terms apply.

Unwind in the Delta Sky Club lounge

The Delta Sky Club lounge is the perfect place to escape some of the chaos at airport terminals when traveling. Sky Club lounges offer food, beverages, Wi-Fi and other amenities to make your travel experience more comfortable.

This lounge isn’t open to everyone, but your Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card will let you purchase access for $39 per person. This benefit allows you to bring up to two guests as well, for $39 per person. Terms apply.

In order to access the lounge, you will need to have a same-day boarding pass on a Delta flight and you can only enter the lounge up to three hours before the flight (unless you have a layover).

20% in-flight savings

Purchasing food, drinks or even headphones can be expensive when flying. But when you use your Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card, you’ll receive a 20% statement credit. Terms apply.

TakeOff 15 — 15% off on award flights

When you use miles to book a Delta flight, you'll get a 15% discount on the number of miles needed. For example, if an award flight costs 33,000 miles, you'll see during checkout that you will only pay 28,000 miles. Terms apply.

Trip delay insurance

American Express added trip delay insurance to several cards, including the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card.

This trip delay coverage will kick in if your flight is delayed for 12 hours or more and will reimburse you up to $300 per trip.

This is a fantastic benefit and protects you if your flight is delayed, giving you peace of mind knowing your credit card has you covered if you needed it.

Manageable annual fee

Most people want to keep their annual fees to a minimum, and this card does carry a $250 annual fee. The annual fee might look steep at first glance, but the benefits offered by this card could easily outweigh it if you'll utilize them. Terms apply.
