Valda Energy FAQs

Who is Valda Energy?

Valda Energy is a British renewable energy provider that supplies energy to small to medium-sized businesses (SMEs).

Established in 2019, their electricity is 100% renewable, so all tariffs are supplied with 100% green energy.

What does Valda Energy offer?

Valda Energy provides renewable, zero carbon emissions electricity and gas to SMEs. Their electricity is certified through Ofgem’s Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin.

They also work with British energy entrepreneurs looking to sell their own generated energy. The renewable energy technologies they partner with include solar, hydro, wind and anaerobic digestion, where organic waste is broken down to produce a biogas used to generate electricity.

What Valda Energy products are available to businesses?

Valda Energy supplies electricity and gas business energy. Gas contracts are available if you take out an electricity contract at the same time.

Business energy contracts run for 12, 24 or 36 months, with energy prices fixed for the contract term. So you can keep energy costs consistent for up to three years.

Their SmartChoice product includes smart meter technology and flexible payment options. You choose how much, how often and how you’d prefer to pay, whether it’s by credit card, debit card, direct debit, standing order or Bacs. You buy energy credit in advance, and only pay for what you use.

You can use the Valda Energy app or website customer portal to make payments and top up your account. You can also view your energy consumption and spot spikes and trends, which could help you with your energy-saving goals.

You can set up notifications in the app, for example, when you need to top up your account, though you can set up automatic payments so that doesn’t happen.

Which businesses can apply for Valda Energy supply?

If you’re an SME, you can apply for business energy from Valda Energy. They accept businesses with a range of credit scores, and don’t ask for upfront security deposits.

However, they won’t be able to supply you if your business has a domestic end use, such as if you’re a property owner renting to domestic tenants.

Does Valda Energy provide smart meters?

Yes, Valda Energy offers smart meter technology that automatically records your energy use each billing period. This way, you’ll get more accurate bills, without submitting meter readings, and you can monitor your energy consumption.

If you don’t already have a smart-enabled meter, Valda Energy will install their latest SMETS2 smart meter for free. So you won’t have to pay any installation or maintenance costs.

Gas smart meters are available for smaller business properties. Otherwise, an automated meter reading device (AMR) may be installed. It’s similar to a smart meter, but uses different technologies.

How can I switch my business energy to Valda Energy?

Valda Energy aims to switch you over within 21 days of you signing up. They’ll manage communications with your old supplier and send you regular progress updates. You’ll be able to track the switch in your account using the Valda Energy app, and they’ll also send you a welcome pack by email.

You’ll need to pay any outstanding balance on your existing account before you can switch to a new energy provider. Once you've supplied final meter readings you’ll receive a bill from your old supplier.

Once you’ve made the switch to Valda Energy:

  • You make your first payment before your supply starts, as shown in the app or customer portal.
  • Valda Energy will start to supply your energy, and you make a second payment 15 days later.
  • Your smart meter will be installed, and you have full payment control.

Many contracts only allow you to switch at certain times, so before switching your supplier, check when you can leave without penalties. That way you can benefit from any savings on the new contract without being charged fees for leaving your previous contract early.

Most business energy deals don’t offer a cooling-off period, even if you’ve only agreed the contract over the phone. So make sure you’re clear on the terms and conditions before going ahead with the switch.
