Whether you have a load of Marriott Bonvoy points from credit cards, vacations or business travel, you might be curious how much these Bonvoy points are actually worth.

Based on our analysis, Marriott points are worth about 0.9 cent each. This is a baseline value, drawn from real-world data, not a maximized value. In other words, you should aim for award redemptions that offer 0.9 cent or more in value from your Marriott points.

What does this value mean?

We calculated that Bonvoy points have a value of 0.9 cent based on comparing real-world redemptions when paying with either cash or points. Unlike some other valuations you’ll find online, it is based on data rather than a hypothetical maximized value.

If you’re getting more than 0.9 cent per point in value for a particular redemption, you’re doing well. If you’re getting less, consider looking for another redemption option.

This valuation can also give you a sense of how much a given Marriott Bonvoy promotion or credit card offer is worth. Though keep in mind that it is only an estimate and not a hard-and-fast cash value.

How do Marriott Bonvoy points compare to other hotel programs?

Marriott Bonvoy points offer fairly average value for a hotel reward program, though there is no “typical” value.

And there’s a certain utilitarian value in points that are worth nearly 1 cent apiece — the math is simple.

How easy is it to earn Bonvoy points?

You earn 10 Bonvoy points per dollar spent at most Marriott hotels, which is an average amount. Yet combining this rate with the value of each point flattens the difference between most hotels, in terms of reward bang per buck spent.

We call this the “reward earning rate” – effectively the amount in value you can expect to earn back (in Bonvoy points) per dollar spent. By this metric, Marriott is right in line with the competition.
