TSB Current Accounts FAQ

Who is TSB?

TSB is a UK-based retail bank that operates out of over 500 branches around the UK. It is owned by the Sabadell Group and offers banking services to its customers, including current accounts, savings products and loans.

What current accounts does TSB offer?

TSB has two main types of current account on offer:

  • TSB Classic account: This account offers all the classic banking services most people would expect from a current account, including the ability to set up standing orders and direct debit payments, transfers, online banking, receiving payments, withdrawals and the opportunity to apply for an overdraft. It doesn’t charge a monthly fee to maintain the account, but some services may carry charges.
  • TSB Classic Plus account: This account is similar to the TSB Classic account in terms of services, but those who meet the minimum criteria for the amount they pay into the account can also earn interest on their balance up to a certain amount.

How do I switch to a TSB account?

Switching to the TSB account can be done relatively easily as TSB, along with many other current account providers, are signed up to the Current Account Switch Guarantee scheme. This means that, within seven working days, a dedicated team at TSB will switch your account and all your scheduled payments.

Do TSB current accounts offer overdrafts?

Yes, there is an option to apply for a small interest-free and fee-free overdraft, but a larger overdraft can also be applied for and will be approved based on credit checks and financial status checks.

Will I need to undergo a credit check to get a TSB current account?

Most banks will carry out some level of credit check on current account applicants, especially those wanting to open accounts that give access to any amount of credit. Some banks offer basic bank accounts for those who do not qualify, which offer banking services but do not offer access to overdrafts.

It’s sensible to bear in mind that if you apply for financial products, such as current accounts or overdrafts, and are turned down, your credit rating may be damaged.

Can I carry out online banking with my TSB current account?

Yes, you have the choice to bank online, over the telephone or in branch, as TSB has a network of branches around the country.
