Before joining NerdWallet, Athena managed several magazines for a regional Great Lakes publisher, covering arts, culture, and small businesses. She earned a bachelors degree in philosophy and a bachelors of fine arts in art history from Kent State University. Today, she lives in Boulder, Colorado with her partner and enjoys hiking, exploring ghost towns and getting (temporarily) lost in the mountains.
