The Starwood Preferred Guest hotel loyalty program has introduced mobile check-in to save members some of the time they previously spent in the lobby waiting in line or at the desk.
The SPG mobile app lets you check in 48 to 72 hours ahead of time. A mobile notification then lets you know when your room is ready. All you have to do is pick up the key at the front desk. When it’s time to leave, you can also use the app to check out. The bill gets sent to your email. Mobile check-in is available at 22 U.S. locations to start and should be available globally by the end of 2017, according to Marriott, the parent company of the Starwood hotel group.
On top of simplifying check-in, the SPG program is also offering a chance to collect more points this summer. You’ll earn double Starpoints on weekdays and triple on weekends for stays of two nights or more at participating SPG hotels and resorts. It’s an even better deal if you have the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express, which offers additional points when you pay for a stay with the card.
There is more to come from SPG in 2018. Guests will be able to request popular services and amenities directly through the mobile app — or send messages directly to hotel staff for special requests.
