As post-holiday wanderlust sets in, travelers start planning their upcoming spring breaks and summer vacations. Here are some vibrant urban destinations that satisfy the itch to just get outside and explore while still providing a nice respite upon returning to the city.

1. Albuquerque, New Mexico

Albuquerque is more than just desert. Besides parks and green space, be sure to head out of the city to see some stunning landscapes at some of the national parks within 100 miles, like the caves of El Malpais National Park.

2. San Francisco

With nearby national parks like the Muir Woods National Monument and accessible parks around the city like Crissy Field, San Francisco is a great place for nature-lovers to gather and take in the sea air.

3. Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C., isn’t only the White House – there are plenty of parks and dedicated green spaces within city boundaries, and there are more than 10 national parks within a morning’s drive. While the best known parks are the President’s Park (which includes the White House) and the National Mall, there are plenty of other attractions in and around D.C., like the Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens and the Potomac Heritage trails.

4. Baltimore

Baltimore may seem to be a surprise, as the one of the most bustling cities on the Eastern seafront. Don’t be fooled, however – Baltimore has some beautiful natural geography like the Patapsco River and Chesapeake Bay, and these bodies of water are surrounded by parks. Outside the city, Baltimore also has access to more than 10 national parks within 100 miles, including trails in the Appalachian Mountains and the Greenbelt Park.

Make the most of big expenses like vacations by using the right travel credit card for your spending habits and budgeting goals. If you are going to travel to one of these cities, you might as well be rewarded for it with earned points and miles to make your next adventure cheaper.
