Frequently asked questions
Linking your bank accounts to NerdWallet’s dashboard not only allows you to simply see your accounts all in one place, but also helps us provide the best, most personalized recommendations for you.
Yes. We link your accounts using the Yodlee platform. Yodlee, a publicly traded company, is the industry leader, with more than 18 years of experience securely pulling account info from various financial institutions. Yodlee follows industry best practice guidelines in the design and implementation of its security network.
No. When you connect your bank account, we pass your username and password directly to Yodlee. They’re never stored on our internal systems. They’re only stored on the Yodlee platform so that it can fetch the account transaction data. This also means that we can’t transfer money without your permission or make any changes to your account. Check out more info on Yodlee’s security policies here.
NerdWallet partners with TransUnion® to provide your VantageScore® 3.0, based on information in your TransUnion® credit report. Your score and credit report information are updated weekly.
Yup, it’s 100% free. You can sign in to NerdWallet anytime to see your free credit score, your free credit report info and more. NerdWallet only pulls your credit score with your permission.
Here are a few things we recommend for keeping your info safe — with us, and in general. For starters, make your password tough to guess. Mix up numbers, letters and special characters when you can. Make sure you never share it with anybody. And never reuse your NerdWallet account password on any other site. We also recommend using virus protection and firewalls. Make sure you never install programs from unfamiliar people or companies, or from suspicious emails. For any programs you install, apply all security updates. These steps will help protect you against identity theft and phishing attempts.
Yes, you can unlink your accounts at any time. And even though we’d be sad to see you go, you can also deactivate your NerdWallet account here.
