The American Express® Gold Card has officially kicked its new Uber benefit into gear — and it's bringing back a beloved card design option.

American Express® Gold Card
NerdWallet rating

As of Feb. 4, 2021, cardholders will get $10 a month in Uber Cash, which can be used toward Uber rides or U.S. Uber Eats orders. That’s a benefit worth up to $120 a year. Terms apply.

This new feature was announced last year, along with news that the card was losing its annual $100 incidental airline fee credit. Terms apply. But AmEx has now released details about how to claim the Uber perk:

  • Add your American Express® Gold Card number as a payment method in your Uber or Uber Eats account.

  • $10 in Uber Cash will then appear in your account automatically each month.

  • The monthly Uber Cash allotment from the card doesn't roll over and is "use it or lose it" each month.

  • Terms apply (see rates and fees).

The American Express® Gold Card is NerdWallet's best bonus rewards travel card of 2021. It earns:

  • 4 Membership Rewards points per $1 spent at restaurants.

  • 4 points per $1 spent at U.S. supermarkets on up to $25,000 in purchases per year.

  • 3 points per $1 spent for flights booked directly with airlines or on amextravel.com.

  • 1 point per $1 spent on other eligible purchases.

Terms apply.

Rose Gold version makes a permanent return

Also as of this month, the American Express® Gold Card's "Rose Gold" design is coming back as a color option, and this time it's here to stay.

Previously, the rose-gold hue was limited-edition and available by referral.

New cardholders will be able to choose between the traditional gold or the rose gold versions. Existing cardholders, too, can request a switch to the rose gold version if they like. Terms apply.
