Navy Federal is changing its introductory offers for new cardholders, plus extending an existing one.

The welcome offer on the Navy Federal Credit Union® More Rewards American Express® Credit Card has been slashed by more than half the value; the Navy Federal Credit Union® GO REWARDS® Credit Card has added a 0% introductory APR for purchases; and the balance transfer offer on the Navy Federal Credit Union® Platinum Credit Card has been extended.

Here's what to expect from the latest changes.

New welcome offers

New cardholders have options to choose from whether they are looking for breathing room on interest or a standard welcome bonus. Throughout the next few months, applicants can apply for the following credit cards and potentially earn these offers:

You must join Navy Federal Credit Union as a member to be able to apply for a Navy Federal credit card. Eligibility is generally limited to current or former members of the military, Department of Defense employees and contractors, or their qualifying family members.

Are these offers a good deal?

The Navy Federal Credit Union® More Rewards American Express® Credit Card previously offered 25,000 bonus points (a $250 value) when you spent $3,000 within 90 days of account opening. The new offer is worth $100. While it’s significantly less, the card’s ongoing value still beats many other credit cards.

It’s uncommon to find a card that offers elevated rewards on multiple common everyday spending categories. The Navy Federal Credit Union® More Rewards American Express® Credit Card earns 3 points per dollar spent on restaurant, supermarket, gas and transit purchases. Most other credit cards typically only offer top rewards in only one of these categories.

In regard to the other offers, the 0% APR periods can provide significant breathing room on purchases or balance transfers. The Navy Federal Credit Union® Platinum Credit Card, especially, is valuable as a balance transfer option to pay down debt since it has a $0 annual fee, no balance transfer fees and a lengthy 0% intro APR. That’s a rarity among balance transfer credit cards, and all three features combined can speed up your get-out-of-debt goals.
