How to Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to Travel Partners

With an eligible Chase travel credit card, you can take advantage of the flexibility of the Chase Ultimate Rewards® program, including the ability to transfer your points to many hotel and airline partners. Transferring Chase points to travel partners is easy to do and can help you maximize the value of your credit card points.

Here’s what you need to know to transfer Chase points to partners.

The value of Chase points

Chase Ultimate Rewards® points can be valuable, but how you use them matters. For example, redeeming points for cash back isn’t the best choice. Points are worth just 1 cent apiece this way. Redeeming points through Chase's travel portal may be a good option. But the value that you get will vary based on the card you have. For example:

• You’ll get a value of 1.25 cents per point if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

• You'll get 1.5 cents per point if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve®.

Transferring points to a travel transfer partner may provide even more value. The exact value depends on which transfer partner you use and how you put your points to use. With this method, NerdWallet estimates the value to be 2.1 cents per point.

Current Chase transfer partners

At the time of writing, there are 11 Chase airline transfer partners and three hotel transfer partners, and they all transfer at a 1:1 ratio.

The variety of partners gives travelers a lot of flexibility. Before you buy airline tickets or book a hotel through a participating partner, you’ll need to transfer your points over from your Chase Ultimate Rewards® account.

How to transfer Chase points

Transferring your Chase points to airline and hotel partners is simple. You can transfer points via the Chase mobile app or Chase’s website.

1. Log into your account and enter Chase's travel portal

First, you’ll want to log into your account. Once logged in, find the area where it says “Rewards.” You’ll need to click on this to access Chase's travel portal.

Once you have done this, you'll be directed to a page featuring a variety of ways to earn and spend points.

2. Access the 'Transfer to Travel Partners' portion of the portal

At the top right of the toolbar on this page, you’ll see the “Travel” dropdown. Click the arrow and select “Transfer points to partners.”

Now you’ll see transfer options. Chase lists airline partners first. As you scroll down, you’ll see more airline options, and then you’ll see the hotel options:

4. Transfer your Chase points

When you’re ready to make your transfer, click the partner to which you’d like to transfer your rewards. Then select “Transfer Points.” We’ll use Air Canada Aeroplan as an example to show you how the process works.

If you haven’t already linked an account, Chase will ask you to choose the recipient. The recipient can be the cardholder or any authorized user on your credit card account. Next, you’ll need to provide loyalty account details. After confirming this information, click “Next.”

Next, you’ll need to enter how many points you want to transfer. Transfers must be in increments of 1,000 points. All point transfers are final and can’t be reversed, so make sure that you’re moving the correct amount of points. After doing this, click “Next.”

5. Confirm and submit

Chase will then prompt you to confirm the details of your transfer, and you’ll be able to transfer your points by clicking “Submit.” The timing for transfers can vary. Some transfers are instant, while others may take several hours or days to show up in your account.

Weigh your options before transferring Chase points

You may be wondering how to decide how to use your Chase Ultimate Rewards® points. Since there are quite a few redemption options, you’ll want to think through your choices first. Here are some tips that can help you decide how to best use your Chase points:

• Decide where and how you want to travel. Before you figure out the best way to redeem your points, have a trip plan. You should know where you want to go and how you want to travel — for example, know if you want to travel in coach or business class. Having a plan can help you decide the right course of action.

• Do the math to maximize the value of your points. Before redeeming points, check to see which redemption method carries the most value. For example, if you can get more value by transferring your points to a partner rather than booking your trip through Chase's travel portal, that may be the best choice. Go with the method that will requires fewer points.
