Rocket Lawyer and LegalZoom are two of the best-known online legal services for small-business owners but they focus on slightly different needs. Rocket Lawyer operates as a subscription service, making it a stronger fit for if you anticipate having ongoing legal needs. You can use LegalZoom for one-time business needs, or sign up for its Business Attorney Plan if you think you’ll need regular access to a business lawyer.

Features of Rocket Lawyer and LegalZoom

Rocket Lawyer and LegalZoom offer many of the same services for small-business owners, including business formation, EIN filing and registered agent services. Neither platform covers every possible legal need, but both can handle many of the routine legal filings that small businesses need.

Rocket Lawyer’s three subscription plans offer varying levels of access to business incorporation and trademark services, AI contract review, phone calls and questions answered by a business attorney and discounts on tax filing and preparation through a third-party service, Taxfyle.

LegalZoom has many of the same offerings, but instead of a monthly subscription, you can pay for the specific services that you need a la carte. LegalZoom offers business formation, trademark services, annual reporting filing, business license and name check services and LLC operating agreements. It also has a plan that gives you ongoing access to a business attorney for a monthly fee, similar to Rocket Lawyer’s business model. LegalZoom’s Business Attorney plan offers phone consultations and document review with a lawyer.
