Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card holders will have more opportunities to earn the card's highest rewards rate starting Aug. 22, 2023.
The card earns 3% cash back in one category of the cardholder’s choice, which now includes EV charging stations for the business and consumer versions of the Customized Cash; and cable, streaming, internet and phone plans for the consumer card only.
The following spending categories now earn 3% back:
- Gas, including EV charging stations.
- Online shopping, including cable, streaming, internet and phone plans. (Cable, streaming, internet and phone plans only earn 3% back with the consumer Customized Cash card.)
- Dining.
- Travel.
- Drugstores and pharmacies.
- Home improvement and furnishings.
Cardholders may change their 3% category once a month in the app or by logging in to their online account.

If you don't make a selection, the default 3% cash-back category will be set to gas and EV charging, according to the issuer. Your selected category will remain the same from month to month unless you change it. The Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card also earns 2% at grocery stores and wholesale clubs. Cash back earnings have a quarterly cap of $2,500 in combined purchases from the 3% choice category and 2% category. All other purchases earn an unlimited 1% cash back.
