Discover it® Cash Back
NerdWallet rating
As the cost of groceries, and especially eggs, continues to climb, Discover’s bonus categories for the second quarter of 2025 are a timely gift.
From April 1 through June 30, 2025, cardholders with the Discover it® Cash Back or Discover it® Student Cash Back can earn 5% cash back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs on up to $1,500 in combined quarterly spending (1% back on everything else; activation is required).
While grocery stores have been a bonus category for Discover every year since 2018, wholesale clubs have been less common. This quarter will offer cardholders the opportunity to earn cash back on top of savings gained from buying in bulk.
Note, though, that purchases from Walmart and Target don’t qualify to earn 5% back, and wholesaler Costco doesn’t accept Discover credit cards for in-person or online purchases. That's a pretty major asterisk, though not a problem for Sam's Club or BJ's Wholesale customers.
Cardholders won’t earn bonus cash back until they activate the two bonus categories, so you’ll want to opt in by April 1 to maximize earnings. Activate the bonus categories in the Discover app, online in the Discover portal, via reminder email from Discover, or over the phone with Discover’s customer service line.
