The limited-time offer described in this article expired. For current offers, see our details pages for the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card, the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card and the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card.

Good news for anyone who's had their eye on earning a coveted Southwest Companion Pass. All three of Southwest's co-branded personal credit cards have increased their sign-up offers to a potential total of 60,000 Rapid Rewards points each, via a tiered rewards system.

For cardholders of the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card, the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card or the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card, the new offer is phrased this way: Earn 40,000 points after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months your account is open. Plus earn 20,000 points after you spend $12,000 within your first year.

On all three of the cards, you can earn either the 40,000-point bonus, the 20,000-point bonus, or both for a total of 60,000.

The previous offer on all of the Southwest personal cards was just 40,000 Rapid Rewards points after $1,000 in spending in the first 3 months of card ownership.

The three cards have different annual fees, but the same ongoing rewards structure:

  • Two points per $1 spent on Southwest® and Rapid Rewards hotel and car rental partner purchases.

  • One point per $1 spent on all other purchases.

The new sign-up offer represents a leg up toward earning a Southwest Companion Pass, which lets you choose one person to fly for free with you (minus taxes and fees) every time you buy or redeem points for a flight. The pass is valid from the time you earn it through the next full calendar year.

To qualify, you either have to fly 100 eligible one-way flights or earn a total of 110,000 Rapid Reward points in a calendar year. The new sign-up bonuses on these cards would get you more than halfway to that point total.
