Hawaiian Airlines doesn’t get as much attention as American, Delta, Southwest and United due to its more limited route network. But, many people who fly to Hawaii regularly are already aware of just how awesome Hawaiian Airlines and the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® both are. Even if you make a trip to Hawaii only every couple of years, the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® can still be a good option. Here are six reasons you should get this card, especially now.
1. The sign-up bonus ends Sept. 4
One reason it makes sense to get the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® now is because its sign-up bonus ends Sept. 4. The current bonus is: Limited Time Offer: Earn 60,000 bonus miles after spending $2,000 on purchases in the first 90 days.
Awards from the contiguous U.S. to Hawaii start at just 35,000 miles round-trip. So with the sign-up bonus alone, you’ll be close to having enough miles for two round-trip tickets.
2. You’ll get your first checked bag free
At $60 round-trip per passenger, checked bag fees can really add up. But, if you have the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard®, you’ll receive the first checked bag for free on Hawaiian Airlines flights. If you’re traveling with your family, a good hack is to try to get away with only one checked bag and have everyone else travel with carry-ons only.
3. You’ll earn a free companion fare the first year and a companion discount in future years
Even though you’ll have almost enough miles for two round-trip tickets, you might want to hold off on using them. That’s because during your first year as a cardholder, you’ll also receive a one-time 50% off companion discount for round-trip travel between North America and Hawaii. Travel must be on Hawaiian Airlines.
If you’re a very frequent Hawaii traveler, you’ll receive a $100 companion discount annually for renewing the card. The $100 companion discount is valid for Hawaiian Airlines flights between North America and Hawaii.

4. If you can’t use the miles, you can share them
If your travel plans change or you’re just feeling generous, another big perk of the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® is the ability to share your miles with friends and family without a fee.
This can be helpful if a family member needs a few miles to top off their account for a dream vacation to Hawaii. Or perhaps you want to pool miles between your family members so you have enough to fly the whole family with miles. Either way, with the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® you’ll save the $25 service fee as well as $0.01 per transferred mile. Cardholders can receive transferred miles up to a maximum of 10 times per calendar year.

5. Decent bonus categories
There are other cards with equal or better category bonuses, but as far as airline-specific cards go, the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® isn’t bad. It offers 3 miles per $1 spent on Hawaiian Airlines purchases, 2 miles per $1 spent on gas, dining and grocery store purchases and 1 mile per $1 on all other purchases. If gas, dining and grocery spending make up a large part of your monthly spending, you’ll especially be able to rack up Hawaiian miles quickly.
6. No foreign transaction fees when you travel abroad
Even though Hawaii is in the U.S. and you won’t have to worry about foreign transaction fees there, it’s always a good idea to have a card (or two) without foreign transaction fees for when you travel abroad. The Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees, so you’ll be set no matter where your travels take you.
If you’ve been considering the Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard®, now may be the time to get it. The current sign-up bonus is slated to end Sept. 4, so your time is limited to lock in this bonus.
