World of Hyatt, Hyatt's hotel rewards program, offers members sweet spot redemptions and plenty of aspirational, bucket list properties in its portfolio.

World of Hyatt points can provide a lot of value if you’re a Hyatt loyalist who earns points with every stay, if you have the World of Hyatt Credit Card or if you want to book a Hyatt hotel for your next vacation.

And whenever you’re short on points, there's a fast, instant way to pad your balance: Chase Ultimate Rewards® transfers.

For anyone with a card that earns Chase Ultimate Rewards®, like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® or Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, the ability to transfer points from Chase to a variety of travel partners — including World of Hyatt — is a nice perk.

But what should you do if your points transfer hits a snag and doesn’t move between accounts instantly?

Here’s what to know about the potential hiccups that can occur when transferring points between Chase Ultimate Rewards® and World of Hyatt. If your Chase transfer to Hyatt is not working, start here.

How it should work

Chase Ultimate Rewards® is the points currency that you earn based on credit card spending with an eligible Chase card. Many categories come with bonus points, too. For example, you’ll earn 3x points on dining and travel with the Chase Sapphire Reserve® or 3x points on online groceries, dining and select streaming services with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

These points can be redeemed like cash for travel spending through the Chase's travel portal at a rate of 1 point per 1.5 cents with the Chase Sapphire Reserve® or 1 point per 1.25 cents with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

There are many Chase transfer partners in the Ultimate Rewards® portfolio — including loyalty programs like World of Hyatt — but also United MileagePlus, Flying Blue Air France-KLM, Marriott Bonvoy and IHG One Rewards, among others.

🤓Nerdy Tip

Transferring Chase points to travel partners instead of redeeming your points for cash can potentially net you more value per point overall. For instance, NerdWallet analysis found that your Chase points could be worth 2.2 cents apiece when transferred to World of Hyatt.

For World of Hyatt transfers, Chase points move over at a 1:1 ratio, and the transfer should happen instantly. This is promising news for those who need to make an urgent award reservation.

Why won’t my points transfer work?

There are occasions when transferring points doesn’t go smoothly. What should be an instantaneous move can hit a snag, and the culprit may be one of the following reasons:

  • Ineligible card. Only those with a premium Chase credit card — namely the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card — can move their Ultimate Rewards® points to a transfer partner like World of Hyatt.

  • Unauthorized account. In order for a transfer to work, you can only transfer points to your own World of Hyatt account. The exception to this rule is that you may complete a transfer to another member of your household — provided they are also listed as an authorized user on your Chase account.

  • Name mismatch. Another common disruptor may be that the names on the Chase Ultimate Rewards® and World of Hyatt accounts do not match exactly. It doesn’t even have to be completely different names, but there could be discrepancies like the use of a middle initial in one or a nickname from a longer name in another, causing a mismatch.

How to solve the problem

To solve this issue, you’ll first need to verify that you hold the right Chase card and that you’re attempting to transfer to your own or an authorized user’s World of Hyatt account.

If you do and it’s still not working, call Chase first to see if it can help to make the transfer. If not, then you know the issue is on the World of Hyatt end.

Call Hyatt to try and adjust your name if it does not match. It shouldn’t take long, and once the name matches, the transfers should be instantaneous.

For those with hyphenated or long names, it can be especially difficult because the names must match exactly. You will need to contact Hyatt to make sure you have them match the same format as on your Chase account.

Who can you transfer points to?

You can only transfer Chase points to your own World of Hyatt account. You may also transfer them to another household member as long as they’re listed as an authorized user on your Chase account.

But if you want to then transfer your Hyatt points to someone else, and they also have a World of Hyatt account, that is possible. This is because Hyatt allows members to combine their points, though there are a few stipulations.

You can only transfer points once every 30 days, and you may only transfer enough points for the other person to redeem a specific award stay. To initiate the transfer, you’ll need to complete and submit this dedicated form directly to Hyatt.

Resolving Chase to Hyatt transfer problems, recapped

If your names don’t match on your Chase and Hyatt accounts, or you’re trying to transfer points with an ineligible card or to an unauthorized account, there is a chance the normally instantaneous transfer may hit a snag.

If there are any problems, pick up the phone to contact Chase first to see if it can help.

If Chase sees no issues, World of Hyatt should be able to help resolve any problems. If all goes as it should, you’ll be on your way to your desired award redemption in no time.
