Nerdy takeaways
The value of one Aeroplan point is 1.1 cents.
You'll get the highest average redemption rate when you book flights within 15 days of travel.
Point values help you know when you should redeem points versus pay cash.
Based on our analysis, the value of one Aeroplan point is 1.1 cents when used to book economy class tickets. This is a median value, drawn from real-world data collected on 80 economy routes. In other words, you should aim for award redemptions that offer 1.1 cents or more in value from your Aeroplan points.
What does this value mean?
Our estimate of 1.1 cents per Aeroplan point provides a median value you can use to determine the relative value of your own redemptions. It is based on comparing main cabin fares, using both cash and miles, across several dates and destinations.
This is the value you can expect to get from your points without seeking particularly high-value redemptions. This means you can get more value by looking for sweet spots and using more advanced award techniques. It also means you can end up getting lower value than this if you’re not careful. We found a range of valuations from 0.6 cent per point to 2.6 cents in our analysis.

How to convert Aeroplan points to dollars
Use our calculator to figure out how much your Aeroplan points are worth in dollars based on our estimated value.
When is the best time to redeem Aeroplan points?
Not all redemptions are equal, so we compared the redemption rates for Air Canada awards for four specific time frames:
Awards booked 15 days to departure.
Awards booked 60 days out.
Awards booked 90 days out.
Awards booked 180 days out.
According to our analysis, Aeroplan points are best for close-in bookings, with an average redemption rate of 1.2 cents per point. However, if you’re looking to get the most out of your points, consider searching for awards 90 or 180 days out, where we were able to find redemptions of 2.6 cents per point.
How flexible are Aeroplan points?
Aeroplan points provide great value for Air Canada awards; however, your options go far beyond the airline. Since Air Canada is a member of the Star Alliance, you can redeem Aeroplan points on any of the 25 Star Alliance partners. When you add in non-alliance airlines, Aeroplan partners with a total of 52 different airlines.
These partners provide a vast array of options. There are plenty of sweet spots in the Aeroplan program, including awards between the U.S. and Canada for as few as 6,000 points each way or flights to Hawaii for just 12,500 points each way.
We collected data in April 2025 on 80 flights, comparing the cash cost to award (point) cost for the same routes and dates.
This method differs from others in that it looks at actual redemptions rather than hypothetical maximized redemptions. The advantage of this approach is that it provides a real-world indication of how much these points are worth, on average. That said, it doesn’t take into account the high-value redemptions that points enthusiasts seek.
