What is HTH Worldwide travel insurance?
HTH Worldwide travel insurance provides healthcare coverage in more than 190 countries and is operated by Worldwide Insurance Services, LLC (WIS), founded in 1997. That name may be familiar because it is also affiliated with Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Solutions.
More than a million people traveling and living abroad get coverage from WIS and its parent company, Working with Highway to Health Inc.
There are two main kinds of plans, travel protection insurance which provide coverage for things like trip cancellation and interruption and travel health insurance plans which are primarily for medical coverage and align with BCBS Global Solutions products.
Here we’ll focus on the travel protection plans.
What does HTH Worldwide cover?
HTH Worldwide travel insurance plans provide protection for many things and are underwritten by the United States Fire Insurance Company.
Generally speaking, here’s what you can expect when you purchase an HTH travel insurance plan:
HTH health insurance coverage: Covers doctor visits, inpatient visits, surgery and more, whether routine or an emergency.
Medical evacuation: Reimburses costs for when your medical care requires evacuation to another location.
Trip interruption: Covers costs for nonrefundable expenses as a result of your trip being interrupted.
Trip delay: Pays for costs incurred as a result of your travel being delayed.
Lost luggage: Reimburses you for loss, theft or damage to personal effects during a covered trip.
HTH Worldwide policy overview
HTH’s policies have a broad array of inclusions. It offers three trip protection single-trip plans, TripProtector Economy, TripProtector Classic and TripProtector Preferred.
Only one plan, the TripProtector Preferred, has an option to add cancel for any reason (CFAR) coverage, and it is not available for people who live in New York or Washington.
The TripProtector plans cover only accidents or illnesses while you’re traveling, not routine care. They also provide basic trip protections and can be good for people taking expensive vacations since one plan covers vacations up to $100,000.
Here's an overview of HTH's single-trip travel protection plan options and what is included.

What’s not covered by an HTH plan
The coverage you’ll receive with an HTH plan will depend on which plan you’re purchasing. For example, only TripProtector Preferred comes with rental car insurance.
Whether you have preexisting conditions included on your HTH plan is also going to depend on which plan you choose. TripProtector Economy does not have this option, while the Choice and Preferred plans do.
Beyond this, most travel insurance plans have specific exclusions to their coverage, including:
War, invasion, acts of foreign enemies, hostilities between nations (whether declared or not), civil war.
Being under the influence of intoxicants.
Traveling for the purpose of securing medical treatment.
To look at the cost of HTH travel insurance, NerdWallet looked at coverage for a 45-year-old man from Illinois taking a $2,000 weeklong trip to Mexico in October 2026.
For the comprehensive Trip Protection Plans, the cost of the TripProtector Economy plan is $73, TripProtector Classic is $87 and the TripProtector Preferred is $117.
While the Preferred plan is significantly more expensive, it has more comprehensive coverage with the inclusion of rental coverage and the option of buying cancel for any reason coverage. Adding the CFAR coverage raises the premium to $175.
Looking at how the HTH travel protection policies compare to competitors, the lowest level of coverage for the same trip is $75 with IMG, $56 with Trawick International, $65 with Tin Leg and $81 with Travel Guard.
On a 5-star scale, NerdWallet rated HTH 4.0 stars. Jump to see our methodology.
These star ratings are based on a separate analysis of each travel insurance provider’s offerings. For more detailed scoring, see our recommendations for the best travel insurance companies, read each individual provider's NerdWallet review or view our methodology at the end of this article. Pricing is subject to change based on your specific trip details. You can verify the latest price by clicking through to Squaremouth (a NerdWallet partner).
Which HTH Worldwide travel insurance plan is best for me?
The HTH Worldwide plan that best suits you will vary based on your needs. If you are taking a very expensive trip, the TripProtector Preferred plan might be best for you since it covers up to $100,000 in cancellation coverage.
The ability to add CFAR coverage might eliminate all but the TripProtector Preferred plan. Coverage for preexisting conditions is only available on the Classic and Preferred plans.
Make sure to check your credit cards to see what coverage you might have for things like travel delay or baggage loss. Coverage levels vary and you usually need to pay for your trip using your eligible card.
Does HTH offer 24/7 travel assistance?
Yes, HTH Worldwide Travel Insurance has 24/7 customer assistance. HTH Assistance is available by calling 877-865-5979 or 610-254-8771 or emailing at [email protected].
There is also a member’s only part of the website, which requires a login.
HTH has an app called mPassport which can help travelers find doctors, emergency services, safety alerts and more. It does not have general travel information or assistance, just medical material.
How to file a claim with HTH travel insurance
To file a claim with HTH Worldwide for travel-related issues, you must download claim forms and mail them along with supporting documents to a post office box in Tampa, Florida.
HTH is able to directly pay some health providers through its Direct Pay program so travelers do not need to pay upfront for some services.
To check the status of a claim, call 888.957.5009 or 1-727-412-7377 or email at [email protected].
Is HTH Worldwide travel insurance worth it?
Compared to some of its competitors, HTH travel insurance seems to be a bit cumbersome without an online claims process or a comprehensive app.
But with coverage for high-priced trips, HTH stands out. The company also offers annual plans for medical coverage only.

Travel insurance
NerdWallet's ratings for travel insurance companies take into account the following details about each insurer:
Scope of coverage.
Customizability.
Consumer experience and complaints.
Cost.
The best travel insurers excel in all of these categories. They provide the information people need to make a purchase without any surprises along the way. They offer insurance at a fair price and allow customers to customize plans to meet their coverage preferences. They're also able to keep their customers happy throughout the relationship.
Data collection and review process
NerdWallet collects over a dozen data points for each insurer we analyze from their public-facing websites and third-party analyses. These data points are then compared against one another and against NerdWallet's standards for good travel insurance companies to determine a star rating.
Data is collected on a regular basis and reviewed by our editorial team for consistency and accuracy. Final star ratings are presented on a scale of one to five stars, where a one-star score represents "poor" and a five-star score represents "excellent."
The reviews team
The writers and editors behind NerdWallet's travel insurance reviews are insurance specialists who have had their work featured by or appear in The Associated Press, The Washington Post, The New York Times, the Chicago Sun-Times, U.S. News & World Report and the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing. Each writer and editor follows NerdWallet’s strict guidelines for editorial independence.
In addition to travel insurance, the team covers travel rewards programs, airlines and hotels.
