Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This may influence which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. However, this does not influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own. Here is a list of our partners and here's how we make money.

Join TrueBlue, JetBlue’s rewards program, and you’ll be able to rack up points toward future flights. Earn enough points and you’ll become a Mosaic member, which means tons of money-saving benefits including free same-day switches, free inflight alcoholic beverages, free checked bags and more.

So how do you become a member, and why would you want to? We break down the requirements and benefits of earning JetBlue Mosaic status, so you can travel with fewer fees and shorter lines, earn more points on flights, and more.

How JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic elite status works

If you haven’t already, sign up for the TrueBlue rewards program to start earning points and status with every flight. Then make JetBlue your default airline to earn the most elite qualifying points fast.

Like most airlines, you can earn elite qualifying points only by flying with the airline, but once you reach Mosaic status, those points are amplified. Upon qualifying, you’ll score an additional 15,000 bonus points, plus 3 points per dollar spent on all JetBlue flights and 5 points per dollar if you book via the JetBlue website or app in addition to the base points earned as a TrueBlue member. Then the perks start rolling in. But first thing's first: earning Mosaic status in the first place.

Earning JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic elite status

Want to become a TrueBlue Mosaic elite status member? There are two ways to do so:

  • Earn 15,000 flight points.

  • Fly 30 segments, plus earn 12,000 flight points.

Either track must be completed within a single calendar year, and qualifying point totals reset every January, so you have to reach your goal between January 1 and December 31.

As for the flight points, the amount you earn varies depending on what type of fare you select upon booking a JetBlue-operated flight. Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra and Mint fares earn 3 points per dollar, while Blue Basic fares earn 1 point.

If you choose to focus on scoring segments plus flight points, JetBlue defines a segment as any one-way flight. A round-trip flight would be two segments. Stops or layovers between the origin and destination cities don’t count as additional segments.

New as of June 2021: You can also use JetBlue Vacations packages and bookings made through Paisly to earn points that count toward Mosaic status. JetBlue Vacations is a branch of the airline that offers package deals on your whole trip including hotels and, yes, JetBlue flights to many places where JetBlue flies. Then there's also Paisly, a separate online travel site run by JetBlue that offers customers hotel rooms, car rentals, and theme park tickets.

Book through either of those two outlets, and you'll earn points that count toward Mosaic elite status. The points earning rate is:

  • 3x on flights booked as part of a JetBlue Vacations package.

  • 1x on hotels, cars and transfers booked as part of a JetBlue Vacations package.

  • 1x on hotels and activities booked through Paisly.

However, points earned by signing up for a credit card, scoring point bonuses, earning through shopping portals or flying with airline partners won’t count toward Mosaic status.

New as of January 2022: In late 2021, JetBlue announced a new Mosaic status level, Mosaic+. Members who earn 45,000 qualifying points or spend $150,000 on either the JetBlue Plus Card or JetBlue Business Card in 2022 will earn additional benefits that will be available beginning Jan. 5, 2022, and will run through the end of the year. More details on those benefits below.

JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic elite status benefits

Becoming a Mosaic member certainly comes with valuable benefits, especially if you fly with the airline often and like to bring more than a carry-on. Here’s what Mosaic members have to look forward to:

  • The first two checked bags are free for you and up to seven people on your itinerary (excess, oversized and/or overweight baggage fees will still apply).

  • Points are redeemable for Even More Space seats at reduced rates (except with Blue Basic fares).

  • An expedited line to the security checkpoint at some airports.

  • Early boarding.

  • A dedicated customer service line available 24/7.

  • Complimentary alcoholic beverages onboard.

  • 3 points per dollar spent on all JetBlue flights and 5 points per dollar if you book via the JetBlue website or app in addition to the base points earned as a TrueBlue member (but the 3 extra bonus points earned by a Mosaic member will not count toward earning Mosaic status for the following calendar year).

  • Mosaic members have always gotten change/cancel fees waived for themselves and up to seven travel companions on all fares except Blue Basic. As of February 2021, change/cancel fees have been eliminated for all fares except Blue Basic, regardless of status. Though, fare differences are still applicable.

You also get additional benefits in JetBlue’s other branches, including Paisly and JetBlue Vacations. For example, if you make a car rental from Avis or Budget through JetBlue’s sibling site, Paisly, Mosaic members earn 200 points per rental day, up to five days (rather than the 100 points that all other TrueBlue members earn).

You’ll get these perks for the rest of the year in which you qualified, plus the next calendar year. For example, if you earned Mosaic Elite Status in May of 2021, you’d get to enjoy the benefits until Dec. 31, 2022. So the earlier in the calendar year you qualify, the more time you have to take advantage of the perks.

Mosaic members get reciprocal elite status benefits when flying with American Airlines via the Northeast Alliance partnership. Complimentary preferred seats are not currently included on the list of shared benefits but are expected to be added in the future.

New as of January 2022: Running through the end of the year, Mosaic members will get additional perks. Members who reach Mosaic+ will get even more bonus benefits. Additional benefits for standard Mosaic members include:

  • A full rebate on Even More Space points redemptions. Basically, you can get an Even More Space upgrade for free up to 200 points, but JetBlue promises that the cost to upgrade will not exceed 200 points in 2022. This benefit will be available for Mosaic members and anyone accompanying them on the same reservation.

  • Complimentary FoundersCard membershipUsing your TrueBlue number and a valid credit card, you can sign up for free membership in this ritzy discount, benefits and events access program typically marketed to entrepreneurs and CEOs.

  • Complimentary Heathrow Express upgrades. If you find yourself in London on the train from Heathrow to Paddington Station, just show your Mosaic member boarding pass to the Heathrow Express staffer at boarding and you'll get bumped up to the Business First car. The upgrade is valid for you and any companions on the reservation.

Add-on 2022 benefits for Mosaic+ members are as follows:

  • Mint upgrade certificates. Mosaic+ members will get four certificates to redeem for Mint upgrades on standard bookings. The ability to do so will be dependent on availability 24 hours before departure. When you book a fare on a Mint-eligible flight (at least four days out), you'll automatically be waitlisted for Mint. If there are any open Mint seats 24 hours before departure, you'll be upgraded. You can use an additional certificate for a traveling companion, but note that you can't redeem certificates on reservations with two or more companions.

  • Complimentary FoundersCard Elite membership. Mosaic+ members will enjoy all the additional perks that come with the elite-level FoundersCard membership.

How much is JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic elite status worth?

JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic is one of the most valuable, entry-level elite status programs out there. That’s largely due to the value of JetBlue’s premium cabin upgrades (which NerdWallet values at $833), JetBlue fee waivers (also valued at $833) and free checked bags (valued at $333).

Based on our comprehensive analysis of aspects of airline elite status which offer the most tangible benefits, like those with free checked bags or fee waivers, we were able to estimate the value of holding JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic elite status at around $2,000.

Remember, that’s just a rough estimate, based on how often you fly and what elite status benefits you actually use. And in some years, value can be worth more or less. For example, JetBlue surprised Mosaic members with news that they would receive free companion passes on flights booked and flown in the first part of 2021, likely in light of the COVID-19 impact on the travel industry.

But you do need to take into account one ‘catch’ of sorts: The “value” of any elite status depends not only on the benefits it affords, but how much it costs to earn. By dividing the benefits by the cost, you can determine the “elite earning rate” for each level.

While the value of holding a JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic elite status is about $2,000, it will cost you about $6,000 to earn it, for an elite earning rate of 34%.

The bottom line

Compared to other airlines, JetBlue’s TrueBlue Mosaic elite status is straightforward, with no complicated tiered earning structure or varied benefits for different status levels. But it’s still a solid program that offers valuable benefits for those who fly with the airline often and want to get the most out of every trip. Free checked baggage alone could save hundreds a year, but maybe the most alluring benefit for fans of award travel are the extra points Mosaic members earn for every flight they book. For those loyal to the airline, Mosaic is worth the effort to achieve.
