Join TrueBlue, JetBlue’s rewards program, and you’ll be able to rack up points toward future flights. Earn enough points and you’ll earn Mosaic elite status, which means access to lots of money-saving benefits including free same-day flight changes, free in-flight alcoholic beverages, fewer fees, more points on flights, free checked bags and more.

So how do you become a JetBlue Mosaic member, and why would you want to? We break down the requirements and benefits of earning JetBlue Mosaic elite status.

What is JetBlue Mosaic?

Mosaic is JetBlue's only elite status level. However, for 2022, JetBlue introduced Mosaic+ to offer its high-spending members additional perks. This could be the step that JetBlue takes to offering a multi-tiered elite status program.

Mosaic+ has been retired as of Jan. 1, 2023. Read about this and other changes coming to the Mosaic program in spring 2023 here.

You earn JetBlue elite status by flying or spending enough on JetBlue’s credit cards. You have your status in the year you’ve earned it and the entire next year. So if you had earned Mosaic status in September 2022, you would have status for the remainder of the year and all of 2023.

If you’re a frequent flyer of JetBlue, you may be interested in signing up for the TrueBlue rewards program to start earning points and status with every flight. TrueBlue is free to join.

Like most airlines, you can earn elite qualifying points only by flying with the airline, but once you reach Mosaic status, your points earnings are amplified. Upon qualifying, you’ll score an additional 15,000 bonus points. Plus, you'll receive 3 bonus points per dollar spent on all JetBlue flights and 5 bonus points per dollar if you book through the JetBlue website or app — in addition to the base points earned as a TrueBlue member. Then the perks start rolling in.

But first thing's first: how to earn Mosaic status in the first place.

How to get JetBlue Mosaic

In 2022, there are two levels ofJetBlue elite status you can earn: Mosaic and Mosaic+. Here’s how to achieve elite status with JetBlue.

JetBlue Mosaic

There are three ways to become a Mosaic member:

  • Earn 15,000 Mosaic Qualifying Points.

  • Fly 30 segments, plus earn 12,000 Mosaic Qualifying Points.

  • Spend $50,000 on your JetBlue Business Card or JetBlue Plus Card.

You can reach the dedicated JetBlue Mosaic phone number by dialing 877-JET-TRUE, or 877-538-8783.

TrueBlue points vs. Mosaic Qualifying Points vs. segments

TrueBlue points are earned when you fly on a JetBlue or partner flight, purchase a JetBlue Vacations package, use a qualifying JetBlue credit card and a bunch of other ways.

When you fly with JetBlue, you will earn 3 points per $1 when spending on JetBlue flights. However, if you fly on the lowest fare class (Blue Basic), you will only earn 1 point per $1. If you’re purchasing your flight on jetblue.com, your point earnings will double.

If you’re making your purchases with a co-branded JetBlue credit card, such as the JetBlue Plus Card, you will earn additional JetBlue points based on that card’s earning structure.

Mosaic Qualifying Points (or flight points) are points earned only when flying on JetBlue or booking JetBlue Vacations packages. Similar to TrueBlue points, you earn 3 points per $1 when flying, unless you fly on a Blue Basic fare, which only earns 1 point per $1.

If you choose to earn Mosaic status through a combination of segments plus flight points, the requirement for the number of flight points is lower. JetBlue defines a segment as any one-way flight, so a round-trip flight would be two segments. Stops or layovers between the origin and destination cities don’t count as additional segments.

JetBlue Mosaic benefits

Becoming a Mosaic member certainly comes with valuable benefits, especially if you fly with JetBlue often and like to bring more than a carry-on.

JetBlue Mosaic benefits include:

  • The first two checked bags are free for you and up to seven people on your itinerary (excess, oversized and/or overweight baggage fees will still apply). You also get a free carry-on and personal item.

  • Free same-day flight changes on all fares (including Blue Basic) for you and your traveling companions on the same itinerary.

  • The ability to use points for Mint Studio bookings available on London flights and some flights between New York-JFK and Los Angeles.

  • Beginning 24 hours before departure, points are redeemable for Even More Space seats. In 2022, you get a 100% rebate on these point redemptions.

  • An expedited line to the security checkpoint at some airports.

  • Early boarding and a dedicated boarding lane at most airports.

  • Perks when traveling on American Airlines due to the partnership between American and JetBlue. Perks include two free checked bags, free Main Cabin Extra seats, free same-day flight changes, dedicated check-in, priority boarding and expedited security.

  • Complimentary alcoholic beverages onboard.

  • Earn up to 9 points per $1 on flights. You earn 3 points per $1 on all JetBlue flights and an additional 3 points per $1 if you book through the JetBlue website or app. If you already have Mosaic status, you will earn an additional 3 points per $1. If the flights are booked in Blue Basic, you will earn 1 point per $1 and an additional 1 point per $1 if you book on JetBlue’s website or app.

You also get additional benefits in JetBlue’s other branches, including Paisly and JetBlue Vacations. For example, if you make a car rental from Avis or Budget through JetBlue’s sibling website, Paisly, Mosaic members earn 200 points per rental day, up to five days (rather than the 100 points that all other TrueBlue members earn).

🤓Nerdy Tip

The earlier in the calendar year you qualify, the more time you have to take advantage of the perks.

You’ll get these perks for the rest of the year in which you qualified, plus the next calendar year. For example, if you earned Mosaic elite status in May 2022, you’d get to enjoy the benefits until Dec. 31, 2023.

How much is JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic elite status worth?

JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic is one of the most valuable, entry-level elite status programs out there. That’s largely due to the value of JetBlue’s premium cabin upgrades, JetBlue fee waivers and free checked bags.

Based on our comprehensive analysis on aspects of airline elite status which offer the most tangible benefits, like those with free checked bags or fee waivers, we were able to estimate the value of holding JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic elite status at around $2,000.

Note, that’s just a rough estimate, based on how often you fly and what elite status benefits you actually use. And in some years, value can be worth more or less. For example, JetBlue surprised Mosaic members with news that they would receive free companion passes on flights booked and flown in the first part of 2021.

How much does JetBlue Mosaic cost to earn?

You do need to take into account one "catch" of sorts: The "value" of any elite status depends not only on the benefits it affords, but how much it costs to earn. By dividing the benefits by the cost, you can determine the “elite earning rate” for each level.

Mosaic elite status

Value of benefits

$1,987.

Cost to earn

$6,329.

Elite earning rate

31%.

While the value of holding a JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic elite status is about $2,000, it will cost you about $6,300 to earn it, for an elite earning rate of 31%.

JetBlue status match

JetBlue doesn’t offer a status match opportunity like other airlines do. However, if you have elite status with American Airlines, you can enjoy some benefits on JetBlue through the Northeast Alliance partnership between both airlines.

Final thoughts on JetBlue Mosaic

Compared to other airlines, JetBlue’s TrueBlue Mosaic elite status is straightforward, featuring no complicated tiered earning structure or varied benefits for different status levels. But it’s still a solid program that offers valuable benefits for those who fly with the airline often and want to get the most out of every trip.

Free checked baggage alone could save hundreds a year, but maybe the most alluring benefit for fans of award travel are the extra points Mosaic members earn for every flight they book. For those loyal to the airline, Mosaic is worth the effort to achieve.
