SOME CARD INFO MAY BE OUTDATED

The Langley Signature Cash Back Visa Card has been driving a lot of buzz among credit card enthusiasts for its customizable rewards structure, which allows you to choose one everyday spending category to earn 5% cash back. That notable feature puts the card in the same league as some of the best 5% cash back cards.
The card also earns 3% cash back on gas, 2% at grocery stores and wholesale clubs and 1% elsewhere, plus it features useful perks and travel protections.
The card is offered by Langley Federal Credit Union, a Virginia-based institution with locations across that state and in some parts of North Carolina as well. Despite the credit union’s small physical footprint, anyone across the U.S. is eligible to join and apply for its credit cards.
Here are five things to know about the competitive Langley Signature Cash Back Visa Card.
🤓Nerdy Tip
To join Langley Federal Credit Union, you’ll need to submit an application with information like your Social Security number and address. You must also open a Langley savings account with a $5 deposit.

1. The rewards are customizable

The Langley Signature Cash Back Visa card earns the following:
  • 5% cash back in a spending category you choose from a list of eligible options, for up to $100 in bonus rewards per month.
  • 3% back on gas and EV charging.
  • 2% back on groceries and wholesale clubs.
  • 1% back on everything else.
Langley has not published a list of the categories eligible for 5% cash back, nor has it specified whether that list is fixed or changes periodically. Multiple efforts to reach Langley for clarification were unsuccessful. Unconfirmed posts in 2026 on Reddit and other forums from people claiming to be cardholders have identified these as categories: Amazon; automotive services; department stores; dining; electronics stores; gas and EV charging; groceries and wholesale; Lowe’s and Home Depot; streaming services; and Walmart and Target.
According to the credit union’s website, cardholders must select their 5% category by 5 p.m. Eastern time on the last day of the month. You can change your category once a month.
The ability to select a new 5% category every month makes the card a flexible and valuable option. It has advantages over other cards in the 5% space in terms of category selection, the degree of control you have over the categories, and the amount of spending eligible for the 5%. The $100-per-month cap on bonus rewards means you can spend up to $2,000 in your category each billing cycle before you hit it.
  • The customizability is similar to that of the U.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card, which allows you to choose two 5% categories at a time. The choices for the U.S. Bank card, though, are more niche than the everyday options reportedly on the Langley card, and there’s a $2,500 quarterly cap on spending eligible for bonus cash back.
  • The Citi Custom Cash® Card, which is no longer available to new applicants, has several broad 5% categories akin to those described as being on the Langley card, but the amount of spending eligible for the 5% cash back is considerably lower ($500 a month). With the Citi card, you don’t choose a category; you automatically earn 5% in whichever eligible category saw the most spending.
  • The Chase Freedom Flex® and the Discover it® Cash Back both offer 5% cash back in categories that are chosen by the issuer, not by you. Those categories change every three months and must be activated by the cardholder. The 5% applies to up to $1,500 per quarter in category spending.

2. The redemption process is straightforward

Rewards earned with the Langley Signature Cash Back Visa are automatically deposited in your Langley savings account and shown on your statement each month. For those who value simplicity, this process is super-low maintenance.

3. There's a generous introductory offer

As of July 2026, new applicants were eligible to earn a $200 rebate directly into their savings account when they spent $3,000 or more within the first 90 days of account opening. The bonus amount is on par with what similar cash back cards on the market offer, although the spending requirement is higher.

4. You get useful purchase and travel protections

In addition to the card’s ongoing rewards, cardholders have access to the following benefits:
  • Baggage delay reimbursement: This coverage reimburses you for essential items you purchase if your checked baggage is delayed or misdirected. You can receive $100 for every day your bag is delayed, for a maximum of three days.
  • Travel accident insurance: This provides up to $1 million in accidental death and dismemberment insurance for incidents while you travel. Coverage applies when you pay for your air, ferry, cruise ship, train, bus or other eligible transportation with your card.
  • Porch piracy protection: Also often referred to as purchase protection, this covers stolen items within the first 90 days after purchase. This protection can replace or reimburse the stolen item up to a $10,000 maximum per claim and $50,000 maximum per cardholder.
  • Trip cancellation/trip interruption: Should you have to miss or cancel a portion of your trip, this protection can reimburse you, up to $2,000 per trip, for the non-refundable cost of your fare. Coverage applies to air travel and other forms of eligible transportation, like ferry, train, bus or cruise ship fares as well.
  • Travel and emergency services: Cardholders, their spouses and legal dependents under age 22 have access to a multilingual call center year-round while traveling in the United States and abroad. Services include emergency transportation, medical and legal referrals and more.

5. There's a fixed APR

Credit cards from federal credit unions have capped interest rates. The Langley Signature Cash Back Visa has a fixed APR of 18%, which is the active maximum allowed by the National Credit Union Administration until September 2027. By comparison, the average APR for credit card accounts that were assessed interest was 22.15% as of May 2026, according to data from the Federal Reserve.
