NerdWallet Review: The Continental Airlines Presidential Plus Credit Card

Annual fee: The Continental Airlines Presidential Plus Credit Card does come with an annual fee. An annual fee isn't necessarily a bad thing. Those who put a lot of money on their cards will often benefit from higher rewards rates or more extensive perks. Credit cards for bad credit will often carry annual fees as well, and are pretty much a necessary evil if you're looking to build credit.

No foreign transaction fee: The card's foreign transaction fee is waived. This fee is usually 3% of all your overseas purchases, and can be quite a burden. It adds up quickly: just two grand spent overseas means a $60 fee. International travelers should consider a waived foreign transaction fee a prerequisite for their card.

Credit Card Showdown: Continental Airlines Presidential Plus Credit Card vs. Capital One® Venture Rewards Credit Card

Lower base rewards rate: The card has a lower base rewards rate than the Capital One® Venture Rewards Credit Card. A decent base rewards rate is important if you're planning on using the card as your go-to. However, many cards give excellent rewards on bonus categories but don't necessarily have the flashiest base rates.

Same late fee: The Continental Airlines Presidential Plus Credit Card has the same late fee as the Capital One® Venture Rewards Credit Card. In theory, you should avoid incurring late payment fees altogether. Not only do you have to pay this one-time charge, you might get stuck with a big penalty APR that lasts six months or more.

Smaller signup bonus: The card's signup bonus is smaller than the Capital One® Venture Rewards Credit Card's, which of course means you're sacrificing some money right off the bat. Obviously this isn't the only consideration you should take into account, but hey, we thought you should know.
