If you are carrying a balance and want to earn rewards, Citibank Dividend Platinum Select would be one of the better cards to choose, especially if you shop through Citi Bonus Cash Center (don’t forget to sign up for the rotating bonuses!). However, if you are not carrying a balance and do not shop at the Bonus Cash Center, then there are other cards out there that offer better rewards rates. Check those out here.
This card has a rotating 5% cash back bonus system, and 2% on all other purchases for the first 6 months, which sets it apart from the typical 1% cash back card. You have to remember to enroll in the plan every quarter, otherwise you won’t receive the extra percent. Be aware that there is cap of 300 “dividend dollars” that you can accumulate each year. If you shop through Citibank with their bonus cash center, you can get up to an additional 5% rewards! The rewards earned here are not subject to the 300 cap.
A comparable card would be Chase Freedom, which offers a 5% rotating cash back system, but has a higher APR and fewer number of months with the introductory 0% APR.
Another very similar card is the Discover More, also with rotating 5% categories. The More comes in 3 varieties, one good for balance transfers (0% for 18 months on balances, 0% for 6 months on purchases), one for purchase APR (0% for 12 months on both balances and purchases), and one with $100 cash back (0% for 6 months on purchases and 0% for 12 months on balance transfers).
