While you will be credited 25,000 bonus miles after spending $750 in the first 4 months of holding the card, we believe this does not outweigh the relatively high annual fee of $85 (after the first year) and the strict 1 mile per $1 spent on purchases.

    I don’t understand how this card has a 2% rewards rate. You get 1 mile per dollar on all non-AA purchases. Shouldn’t that come out to about 1.00% back? In fact, according to your infographic, an AA mile is worth $0.76, so shouldn’t it be about a 0.76% reward rate?

      Hey Matt, we actually have the reward rate listed as 1%, because as you point out, it pays 1 mile per dollar.

      For any travel rewards credit cards, we assume that miles are worth 1 cent, but that’s based on a user’s inputs. There is a slider in the bottom left that says “how much do you value airline miles?” If you move that, the reward rate will change. Our infographic does say that we think AA miles are worth 0.76c on average, but that doesn’t take into account any elite status, specials, promotions, or any other deals that allow travelers to take better advantage of their miles.

      So rather than force the same valuation on everyone, we allow you and our other users to decide for yourself how valuable these miles are to you.
