Credit Card Review: Fidelity Rewards Visa

Author:
STEPHEN

In general, the Fidelity cards rank well for people with Fidelity savings accounts, and who do not spend enough on gas, groceries, and restaurants to benefit from the bonus rewards from cards like Amex Blue Cash or Costco TrueEarnings.

Keep in mind that Fidelity rewards must be deposited into Fidelity savings accounts. If you do not have one, consider trying the next best card on the list. Also, this particular Fidelity card only gives out rewards every time you spend $5,000 – i.e, 5,000 points gets you a $50 deposit into your Fidelity account.

You may also want to consider one of the other 3 Fidelity cards instead, those pay 2% whereas this one pays 1.5% for the first $15,000 then 2% thereafter.

My free Fidelity checking account accepts these rewards and permits funds to be withdrawn at any time via electronic transfer or by writing a check.

I am interested in applying for you “cash back” credit card.
I have been with Fidelity Investments for almost 30 years.

  • Brian

I have this card and see an option for a straight cash back reward. Is there some kind of catch that I'm not seeing? If I wait to accumulate 25,000 points I am eligible for a $250 cash reward, or a 1 point-1cent ratio.

That's right Brian, you're eligible to exchange your points for cash on a 1 point/cent ratio, starting at 5,000 points. So for every 5,000 points, you can get $50. But then you earn 1.5 points per $1 that you spend up to the first $15,000, and after that you earn 2 points per $1.

So all in, you are earning 1.5% cash back on the first $15,000, then 2% after that.

  • alex

Is this card compatible with a Fidelity mySmart Cash checking account?

    • http://www.nerdwallet.com/ Tim

I believe it’s compatible with any and all Fidelity accounts.

  • Interested

Does this card have charge fees for foreign transactions?

  • Not So Interested Anymore

Looks like it takes a detailed comparison with another card to show the Int’l fee: 3%. Ouch.
