2018 was an awesome year for NerdWallet! Each and every Nerd played a critical role in helping us achieve our best year ever, and while it’s impossible to put every achievement into writing, here are some of the highlights:

  • We had a record-breaking financial year. We posted our best financial results ever, exceeding both our profitability and revenue goals. These results were driven by a number of initiatives, including growing and innovating our financial marketplaces, turning membership into a substantial revenue contributor, increasing organic traffic and running performance marketing profitably.

  • We reached more people than ever. There were more than 140 million visits to NerdWallet’s content and tools in 2018, up roughly 40 percent from 2017! At the same time, our new “Turn to the Nerds” TV spot is performing very well. We have the reach and resonance to help more people than ever before gain greater financial clarity.

  • We made huge strides in membership. We rolled out an astounding 27 new features in our mobile app last year, dramatically improving its usefulness and making it an integral part of our members’ lives. Our engagement and retention numbers are beating expectations, and more than 20K reviewers have given the app a 4.8 out of 5 star rating in the App Store. What I’m blown away by most is the fact that this app we created barely a year ago has already helped active users identify more than $1 million in potential savings. These are huge accomplishments!

  • We have an incredible team of Nerds. We’ve added 116 new Nerds to our already stellar team, including five executives. And we’re still growing with positions open across data, engineering, marketing, product management and more.

It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, from a credit cards comparison spreadsheet in 2009 to a thriving business reaching millions of people. I’m truly excited to build on these successes in 2019 and am looking forward to shattering even more records in the year ahead!
