Wells Fargo has taken its Propel-branded card off the market. It has introduced a card with similar benefits, the Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card. See our review of that card.

As of April 2021, the Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card isn't available to apply for on the Wells Fargo website.

A Wells Fargo spokesperson said the issuer has paused accepting new applications for the card. That action has no immediate effect on existing cardholders, the spokesperson said.

The $0-annual-fee Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card debuted almost three years ago, in 2018. Though it lacks some of the frills of more premium (and expensive) travel credit cards, it offers a lot of value for existing customers and has been NerdWallet’s pick for "Best No-Annual-Fee Travel Credit Card" three years in a row.

The card earns triple points per $1 spent across a wide variety of popular spending categories:

  • Dining, including restaurants, takeout and bars.

  • Travel, including flights, hotels, gas stations, transit, rideshares and homestays.

  • Select streaming services.

All other eligible spending earns 1 point per $1 spent. Those points can be redeemed for a variety of options, including cash back and travel. They're generally worth 1 cent each regardless of how you redeem.

The Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card also comes with a few valuable side perks, like cell phone protection.

Terms apply.
