College HUNKS Hauling Junk & Moving is a company that specializes in local moves, junk removal, donation pickup and labor services in the U.S. and Canada. (HUNKS is an acronym for "honest, uniformed, nice, knowledgeable service.") The company has over 130 franchise locations nationwide and operates in more than 40 states. If you plan to hire College HUNKS for a move, here are five things you should know.

Handles local moves, junk removal, donation pickup and labor services.

1. Local moves are a focus, with some long-distance options

Although College HUNKS has locations across the U.S. and Canada, its moving business primarily handles local moves, or short-distance moves that start and end in the same state. If you're close to one of the company's offices and are planning such a move, it could be a great pick.

The company also handles long-distance and interstate moving services, but only on a limited basis in select markets. For these moves, ask about availability in your area.

2. You can hire moving labor separately

In addition to local moves, College HUNKS also offers labor services. These services could be especially helpful if you're using a moving container service such as PODS, U-Box or U-Pack and want professionals to load and unload your belongings. Movers can also load a rented truck or stage and rearrange furniture for house showings, among other things. Labor services are billed hourly.

3. A deposit is required

You need to put down a deposit when working with College HUNKS. However, it’s refundable if you cancel services with enough advance notice — typically, three to five days before the moving date.

Deposit requirements and terms vary by franchise location, the company notes. Some are based on distance from a College HUNKS office to the move location; others are a flat rate.

4. The company generally charges an hourly rate for moving, plus fees

Moving prices for College HUNKS typically break down into two types of charges:

  • Hourly rate: This fee is based on the amount of time it takes for the team to complete the entire move. The clock doesn’t start until the team begins working at the pickup location.

  • Truck and travel fees: As is the case with most local movers, College HUNKS charges fees based on the amount of time and gas it takes for the moving team to get from their office to your residence, then from there to your destination, and back to their office. It also covers moving pads, tie-down straps, blankets and dollies recovered on the same day.

Interstate moves, or moves across state lines, tend to work differently. Depending on the location, these may be priced as a flat rate based on distance traveled and inventory size.

College HUNKS can provide you with a quote over the phone if you’re moving anything smaller than a two-bedroom apartment or an 1,800-square-foot home. Or, you can request a quote online.

5. Full-service packing is available

College HUNKS has professionally trained packers. If you're moving several fragile or valuable items, or don't have the time to pack up belongings yourself, using a packing service like this could be well worth the cost.

You also have the option to order packing supplies from the company separately, including:

  • Wraps and packing peanuts.

  • Moving labels.

  • Industrial tape, sealing tape and tape dispensers. An acrylic adhesive resists aging and protects against harsh temperatures.

  • Paper pads and protective coverings.

  • Moving boxes.
