American Express has added another limited-time offer for Marriott cardholders during the prolonged fallout of the coronavirus pandemic. The new 10x spending bonuses reflect a change in the way people are traveling and spending right now, which means more road trips than airplane flights. Here's what you need to know.

The offer

Now, cardholders of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express, Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant, and Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card will receive the following bonuses on up to $7,500 in eligible purchases in each category:

  • 10x points on U.S. gas stations.

  • 10x points on U.S. restaurants.

  • 10x points at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels.

That means cardholders can get bonus points on spending categories that usually net 1 to 6 points per dollar spent. The offer runs from Aug. 3 to Oct. 31, 2020, and requires enrollment. Terms apply.

Am I eligible for the offer?

The offer is only available to cardholders of the following products:

  • Marriott Bonvoy American Express.

  • Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant.

  • Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card

Terms apply.

People who sign up for one of the eligible Marriott Bonvoy cards during the promotion may enroll in the offers as well.

How to get the offer

Eligible cardholders should receive an email inviting them to participate. Keep in mind each offer requires a separate enrollment. Cardholders should register for all of these offers as soon as possible to maximize their earnings.

Other AmEx offers for Marriott cardholders

This offer is part of American Express’ ongoing effort to provide value for customers and allow travel credit card holders in particular to keep earning points while they have stopped traveling. Back in May, AmEx announced a slew of other offers for some of these same cards. For example, Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card and Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant cardholders had the opportunity to earn 6x points on groceries through an offer that ran from May to July.

People with the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card can also apply eligible purchases at U.S. restaurants, including takeout and delivery, toward the $300 Marriott Bonvoy Statement Credit benefit. That benefit runs through August 2020, so you can double up on the promotions by signing up for both the restaurant statement credit and the new 10x points offers. Terms apply.

The bottom line

These new offers make these Marriott cards incredibly valuable on road trips, hitting all of the major spending categories you might tick off as the highway signs pass by your car window. To maximize your earnings, you should swipe your Marriott card for the fast food, gas refills and hotel stays along your journey. We can recommend some Marriott properties for your road trip through the Southwest or Western U.S. Like the previous offers, the 10x points aligns with the new way that people are spending and traveling safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
