Marriott Platinum is the third tier in Bonvoy's five-level elite program, requiring 50 qualifying nights annually to earn through the traditional route. It bridges the gap between basic perks and true VIP treatment, offering meaningful benefits without the extreme requirements of higher tiers.

It's more attainable than Titanium (75 nights) or Ambassador (100+ nights), yet significantly more valuable than Gold (25 nights). For most travelers, Platinum represents the elite status sweet spot.

Executive lounge access

With Platinum status, you (and one guest staying in the same room) have access to executive lounges at Marriott properties that have them. Not every Marriott has a lounge, but you'll typically find them at brands including Sheraton, Le Méridien, Westin as well as JW Marriott, Marriott Hotels and Delta Hotels (except their resort properties).

Method 1: Marriott credit card fast track

The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card has a $650 annual fee, and it's the only credit card that gives you complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Platinum status. In addition it also gives you 25 elite night credits per year toward even-higher levels of elite status (like Titanium Elite status).

If you're not ready to fork over the annual fee on the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card, you can earn elite status through a combination of hotel stays and elite night credits. Marriott has a handful of credit cards that provide 15 nights per year by simply holding the card:

• Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card.

• Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card.

• Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card.

• Marriott Bonvoy Bevy® American Express® Card.

• Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful™ Card.

It’s important to note that for the most part, you cannot stack your elite night credits. This means that if you hold both the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card and the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card, you’ll still only receive 15 elite night credits for the year. Terms apply.

The only exception to this is the Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card. If you hold both a consumer version and business version of the co-branded credit cards, you’ll receive a total of 30 elite night credits each year towards elite status. Terms apply.

Finally, the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card allows you to earn one elite night credit for every $5,000 that you spend.

Method 2: Stay strategically

You could stay 50 nights in a Marriott to earn status the standard way. Since you earn the same night credits whether you pay for a budget Marriott brand like Fairfield by Marriott versus someone who presumably spent much more money on the JW Marriott. It's for this reason that you might hear of someone check into a cheap Aloft Hotel in their hometown just to round out a couple more nights needed to earn Platinum elite status. (For many, it's worth it!)

Method 3: Marriott status match

Marriott isn’t currently offering a public status match to its Bonvoy program in the Platinum tier, though it’s still possible to gain Marriott Gold status if you’re a United MileagePlus elite member with United Premier Gold status and higher. How long does Marriott Platinum status last?

Marriott’s elite status is usually valid during the year in which you’ve earned it and the year afterward (though that has changed due to COVID-19 related status extensions). Generally though, if you earn Platinum status in June 2025, you’ll have it for the remainder of 2025 and throughout all of 2026.
