The $90-annual-fee Virgin Atlantic World Elite Mastercard® is ideal for knowledgeable fans of the airline's frequent-flyer program, aka Flying Club. It can help you rack up miles quickly, thanks in large part to the 1.5 miles per dollar you earn on all non-airline spending — an outstanding rate for a co-branded airline credit card. You'll also have useful transfer partners, plus a way to earn a companion ticket each year if you spend enough.
Still, you'll likely have to pay hundreds of dollars in fees to use your reward miles on Virgin Atlantic flights. You could instead transfer miles to partners, if you're willing to take that extra step. But keep in mind that the companion ticket benefit is good only when you book an award flight with Virgin Atlantic, not with partners.
