SOME CARD INFO MAY BE OUTDATED

This page includes information about these cards, currently unavailable on NerdWallet. The information has been collected by NerdWallet and has not been provided or reviewed by the card issuer.

If you still have a co-branded credit card with the now-shuttered Spirit Airlines, you can expect a new arrival to land in your mailbox.
Bank of America® is moving existing holders of the carrier's Free Spirit credit cards to the Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card. (Spirit cardholders who also already carry the Customized Cash card will instead be moved to the Bank of America® Unlimited Cash Rewards credit card.)
Spirit Airlines stopped operations in May 2026, but its Free Spirit® Travel Mastercard® and Free Spirit® Travel More World Elite Mastercard® — both issued by Bank of America® — had remained active until now.
According to the issuer, although both the Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card and the Bank of America® Unlimited Cash Rewards credit card typically charge foreign transaction fees, those who are transitioned from the Spirit Airline cards will not be charged any foreign transaction fees nor annual fees. Additionally, account information like APRs, credit lines and card numbers will remain the same as they were on your previous Spirit card.
It's unclear what will happen to any Free Spirit points that Spirit cardholders may have accrued.

What the Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card offers

Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card
NerdWallet rating
The $0-annual-fee Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card features valuable rewards in common spending categories. However, the card can be more complicated to use than the co-branded Spirit Airlines cards. Here’s why:
  • In the first year, new holders of the Bank of America® Customized Cash Rewards credit card earn 6% cash back in a category of their choice (from a list of six options) and 2% back on grocery stores and wholesale clubs for the first $2,500 of combined bonus category spending per quarter. After hitting that threshold, you’ll earn 1% back on these purchases. (Those converted from a Spirit Airlines card will not qualify for this offer.)
  • After the first year, cardholders earn 3% back in the category of their choice and 2% back on grocery stores and wholesale clubs for the first $2,500 of combined bonus category spending per quarter. After hitting that threshold, you’ll earn 1% back on these purchases.
  • When selecting your 6% and 3% back bonus categories, you have six options: gas/EV charging; online shopping (including cable, streaming, internet and phone plans); dining; travel; drugstores; and home improvement/furnishings. You can change your category up to once a month, but if you don't make a selection, the default 6%/3% category will be set to gas. Your selected category will remain the same from month to month, unless you change it.
  • Cash back can be redeemed for statement credit, a check, a direct deposit into a Bank of America® checking or savings account, an eligible 529 account, or a contribution to an eligible Merrill account.
