Online tools
Website: You can get pet insurance quotes and buy a policy through Kanguro’s website. Information is available in both English and Spanish.
Mobile app: Kanguro's app is available for both Apple and Android devices. You can use it to file claims and view your pet's medical history, policy details and claim status.
Claims
To submit a claim, use the app to provide a picture of the vet invoice. Kanguro says it typically takes five days to reimburse claims. You can use the app to track the status of submitted claims.
When calculating your claim payout, Kanguro will apply your deductible before the reimbursement amount. This is a more generous method than that of some other pet insurers.
Suppose your dog gets sick and racks up a $2,000 vet bill for a covered condition. If your policy has a $250 deductible and an 80% reimbursement rate, here’s how reimbursement would work with the two methods.
How Kanguro calculates claim payouts: Deductible first
$2,000 vet bill - $250 deductible = $1,750.
$1,750 x 0.8 (80% reimbursement rate) = $1,400 reimbursement.
How much you pay: $600.
How some other insurers calculate claim payouts: Reimbursement first
$2,000 vet bill x 0.8 (80% reimbursement rate) = $1,600.
$1,600 - $250 deductible = $1,350 reimbursement.
How much you pay: $650.
