The Nerdy headline:
CrossCountry Mortgage stands out for its wide range of loan types, including FHA loans and less common options. Down payment assistance is available. However, the lender earns relatively low marks for customer satisfaction during origination. May appeal to borrowers looking for a fast closing.

What does CrossCountry Mortgage specialize in?
A lender’s experience with your loan type can make a big difference. We looked at the latest federal data to find the types of mortgages CrossCountry Mortgage handles most often.
Conventional is the most common, but CrossCountry Mortgage issues a good amount of FHA loans, too — these made up a quarter of the lender’s purchase loans last year.

🤓 Our Nerds say... no mobile app for customers

Borrowers can contact CrossCountry Mortgage customer service over the phone or in person at a branch location. While the lender has an app, it’s designed for loan officers, not customers. When we called the lender, we were immediately connected with a representative who was able to answer our questions.
Alternatives to CrossCountry Mortgage
Our biggest tip: Get offers from at least three different mortgage lenders. Comparison shopping can save you thousands of dollars. You can get rate quotes yourself, or work with a mortgage broker to shop around on your behalf.
Nontraditional borrowers could be a good fit for Guild, which offers many of the same alternative loan types as CrossCountry Mortgage.
FHA borrowers may be interested in applying with Rocket Mortgage. Like CrossCountry Mortgage, FHA loans made up a quarter of the Rocket’s purchase originations last year.
Finally, borrowers turned off by CrossCountry Mortgage’s low customer satisfaction during origination may want to apply with Movement. Among lenders reviewed by NerdWallet, Movement was the highest ranked lender in J.D. Power’s 2024 U.S. Mortgage Origination Satisfaction Study.

Methodology
NerdWallet rates mortgage lenders based on what matters most to borrowers: rates and fees, product accessibility, customer experience, rate transparency and the range of loan options.
We review more than 40 lenders and score them using a weighted system that prioritizes affordability and a smooth borrowing experience. Lenders earn higher scores for offering lower borrowing costs, making loans widely available, clearly displaying rate information and supporting borrowers from application through closing.
We use a mix of lender-provided information, publicly available data and our own research and analysis to evaluate each lender. Recent regulatory actions may affect a lender’s score.
