Safe Ship Moving Services Review 2025
Some or all of the mortgage lenders featured on our site are advertising partners of NerdWallet, but this does not influence our evaluations, lender star ratings or the order in which lenders are listed on the page. Our opinions are our own. Here is a list of our partners.
Safe Ship Moving Services is a moving company broker that connects customers with full-service interstate and cross-country movers, including packing and storage services.
Safe Ship is not a top pick compared to other companies we reviewed. Safe Ship is a broker, so things like day-certain delivery and deposit amount depend on the company you’re matched with. Safe Ship also has a relatively high customer complaint rate with the Better Business Bureau and Department of Transportation compared to other companies we reviewed.
Safe Ship Moving Services basics
Founded in 2020, Safe Ship Moving Services is one of the newer moving service providers we’ve reviewed. The company is headquartered in Boynton Beach, FL. Safe Ship coordinates moves with independent full-service moving companies and specializes in long-distance, corporate and military moves.
Here are some of Safe Ship’s major offerings and what we think you should know.
Local and interstate moves
Safe Ship specializes in coordinating long-distance and cross-country moves.
The company can set customers up with a moving carrier that loads, transports and unloads for interstate and cross-country moves. A Safe Ship representative told us in an email that they offer guaranteed delivery dates “when possible.”
You can contact customer service via phone, email, online chat or online support request form, which is a fairly comprehensive variety of contact methods compared to other companies we reviewed.
International moves
Safe Ship Moving Services does not coordinate international moves.
Storage
Many people who move need extra time to find or prepare new homes, which is why movers that offer storage can be especially helpful. Safe Ship Moving Services offers storage services, though this may carry an added fee, and you’ll need to request a quote for it.
Usually, there are two ways to go about managing storage with a mover:
Have the mover take some or all of your stuff to a storage unit that you’ve rented.
Have the mover store some or all of your stuff at one of its own warehouses. Safe Ship has a storage facility with climate-controlled units, 24/7 video surveillance and alarm systems. They offer short-term and long-term storage, including asset management and inventory services for businesses. A Safe Ship representative told us in an email that all Safe Ship carriers offer storage options.
Packing and unpacking
Safe Ship can send people to your house to wrap fragile items, sort belongings, build boxes and pack items into them. According to the Safe Ship website, the movers they send will bring their own high-quality boxes, wrapping and padding materials. To reduce costs, you can ask the movers to pack or unpack only specific rooms or items.
Safe Ship can pack fragile items, including electronics, dishes and furniture that need special protection.
Vehicle shipping
Safe Ship Moving Services works with carriers that offer car transport between all 50 U.S. states. The company offers both open transport for a more affordable price and closed carriers for more valuable vehicles that need protection from the elements. Safe Ship can also transport motorcycles and offers tracking for vehicle transport.
Customer service
To evaluate customer satisfaction, we consider Better Business Bureau (BBB) customer ratings, which is based on customer reviews, and the number of complaints customers have filed with the BBB. We also consider complaints filed with the U.S. Department of Transportation.
We found that although Safe Ship's customer satisfaction rating with the BBB is better than many of its competitors' ratings, it had a relatively high number of customer complaints filed with the BBB and the Department of Transportation per 100 vehicles than many of its competitors, which could indicate problems with customer service or in-house issue resolution.
Safe Ship Moving Services cost
Your total moving costs and fees, including potential credit card fees, depend on the carrier that Safe Ship matches you with. Here's what you can expect.
Deposit: Safe Ship charges an upfront deposit that costs 15% to 30% of the total cost of your move, depending on the carrier that Safe Ship matches you with.
Credit card fee: Safe Ship charges a credit card fee of 2.5% to 3% of the total cost of your move. There’s no fee when paying with a check or ACH transfer.
Broker fee: Safe Ship charges a broker fee, which is typically a percentage of the total move cost and is nonrefundable if you cancel more than three days after signing your contract.
Payment: Half of the carrier charges are due when the movers pick up your items, and half of the charges are due when they have delivered everything to your new address.
Getting a quote
Like most moving companies, Safe Ship Moving Services doesn’t provide firm price quotes online. Getting a moving quote typically involves making an appointment for a walkthrough in your home so the company can see what you’re moving and how hard it is to get those things out of the house and onto the truck.
Safe Ship provides binding quotes, which ensure that your costs won't exceed the estimate. The quote takes several factors into account, including how far you're moving and how much stuff you have.
» MORE: How much does it cost to move?
Beware of websites that claim to tell you how much your move is going to cost without an inventory list or walkthrough. None of the full-service moving companies we reviewed provides reliable price quotes online. Virtually every moving company requires contact with a salesperson and a visual survey of your belongings to provide a reliable cost estimate.
Tracking your shipment
A Safe Ship representative told us in an email that customers are not able to track the location of their truck in real time. However, according to the Safe Ship website, many of Safe Ship’s partners offer real-time GPS tracking, so this feature may be carrier-dependent.
Things Safe Ship Moving Services won’t move
Items that Safe Ship Moving Services won’t move likely depend on the carrier the broker matches you with. Generally, moving companies won’t move flammable, toxic, explosive or otherwise hazardous items, as well as priceless family heirlooms and other high-value items.
What if Safe Ship Moving Services damages my stuff?
Moving companies are liable for loss or damage to your stuff during transportation. But the extent of that liability depends on which kind of liability coverage you choose. Federal law requires movers to offer you two liability options:
Released Value. This protection is free but only pays 60 cents per pound. So if the movers ruin your 300-pound couch, you only get $180, even if the couch was expensive.
Full Value Protection. Under this option, the mover is liable for the replacement value of items that it loses, damages or destroys. You have to pay extra for this option, but unless you explicitly choose the Released Value option, movers must automatically move your stuff under the Full Value Protection level of liability. In this scenario, if the movers ruin your 300-pound couch, they have to repair the couch or pay the replacement value of the couch.
Another option is to get third-party insurance for your move. Your homeowners' insurance might (or might not) provide some coverage.
Liability coverage isn’t the same thing as insurance, so state insurance laws don’t apply to the coverage movers provide.
