Calling American Express cardholders: If you hold The Platinum Card® from American Express, the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card or a number of other premium AmEx cards, you’re now getting an added perk.

Starting April 1, 2021, eligible cardholders who charge their wireless bill to their AmEx card are eligible to be reimbursed for cell phone repairs or replacement phones. The protection even covers screen damage, which is often excluded from protection. Terms apply.

Coverage goes up to $800 per claim, or $1,600 (two claims) per 12-month period. Each approved claim carries a $50 deductible. Terms apply.

Cards that will offer cell phone protection

According to a 2020 study by Statista, the average cost of a cell phone is $580, though some phones sell for $1,000 or more. This built-in cell phone protection can come in handy when you need it most. Just make sure you pay your bill with the card; simply holding the card isn’t enough to be eligible.

Earlier this year, AmEx announced limited-time wireless credits on several co-branded business credit cards. Through Dec. 31, 2021, if you use your Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card or Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card, you will be eligible for the cell phone protection plus a monthly wireless credit of $15 or $20, respectively. Terms apply.
