Chase has unveiled the Chase Slate Edge℠, a new credit card with a 0%-interest 12-month promotional period, plus a limited-time sign-up bonus.
Here are the card’s features:
0% intro APR: 0% intro APR for 12 months on purchases and balance transfers, and then the ongoing APR of 14.99% - 23.74% Variable APR. There is a 3% balance transfer fee.
Sign-up bonus: Receive a $100 bonus on your statement when you spend $500 in your first six months from account opening.
Additional benefits: You’ll be automatically considered for a 2% APR reduction if you spend $1,000 in the first three months and make timely payments. Plus, if you spend $500 in the first six months and make timely payments, you’ll be automatically eligible for a credit line increase.
Access to Chase tools: Carrying the Chase Slate Edge℠ grants you access to Chase Credit Journey, a free tool for tracking your credit score and monitoring your identity (you don’t have to be a Chase customer to use this tool, however). You can also use My Chase Plan, which allows you to divide purchases of $100 or more into equal monthly payments with a fixed monthly fee and no interest.
The launch of the $0-annual-fee Chase Slate Edge℠ follows the closing of the Chase Slate® in 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, when a number of credit card issuers pulled back their balance transfer offerings due to economic uncertainty. While the Chase Slate® had no sign-up bonus, it was one of the rare balance transfer cards you could qualify for with fair credit (a FICO score of 630 to 690). Plus, it was a “triple-zero” card: It offered a promotional $0 balance transfer fee, a $0 annual fee and a lengthy 0% intro APR period. The Chase Slate Edge℠, meanwhile, has a balance transfer fee and requires good-to-excellent credit (a FICO score of 690 to 850).
